  WannaBe: Ah, another game where King goes strolling, just like N Ninov vs I Cheparinov, 2005
Jun-04-05   catfriend: I think somebody has a collection of king strolls, here's a game for example: R Steel vs NN, 1886

  kevin86: It looks like it will boil down to two passed pawns vs a rook. Alas for black,the pawns aren't advanced enough-and his king is bottled up by white's king.
Jun-04-05   catfriend: <kevin86> White can do even better! A possible line:
33..a5 34.Rb1+ Ka4 35.Rc1 Kb3 36.Rc6 Bc8 37.Rc8 Bb6 38.Rb8! (key point) Bc7 39.Rxb5 Ka4 40.Rb8 h5 41.Kd4
Jun-04-05   notsodeepthought: <catfriend> R Steel vs NN, 1886 is a great king march, except that (a) there, unlike in this game, the marching king won, and (b) unfortunately that game is probably a hoax (though a fascinating one) - see the game notes.
Jun-04-05   catfriend: I know:) But one of the reasons I gave it is that in the list of game collections under the notes, there are some collections about king marches.

  ajile: Horrible. What is the point of Black's opening play? To get down the exchange and have an inferior middlegame? Sorry I don't get it. Seems to me simple moves like 5...ExD give Black a decent game.
Jun-04-05   catfriend: You're right, but perhaps black wanted to put his opponent out of the opening book?
Jun-04-05   TheSlid: <Jimzovich: A game involving pure tactics? Yes>

Lol - and a neat avater too!

Jun-04-05   Jimzovich: <TheSlid> I like your avatar too.

Another thing about this game. I think I would have played 21.Nxb2 holding together the Q-side. Is that bad?

  patzer2: Black makes a small mistake with 9...Nd7? (9...c5!=) and a blunder in 11...Qh4?? (11...Qd8 ). After 12. Nxc7+ Black can resign.

Of course White prolonged the game a bit in overlooking the immediately decisive 22. Bd2! Bc2 (22... Nb6 23. Ra5+) 23. Ne5 Nb2 24. Ra5+ Kb6 25. Ra2 .

  patzer2: However, 20. Rxa4! is simple but good in simplifying quickly to a won ending.
Jun-04-05   Saruman: So Salad Fingers has found his way here too, well what can I say?

  patzer2: Correction: Make that 22. Rxa4! is simple and good in simplifying to a won ending.
