Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-15-08   paladin at large: My guess is that Treybal, perhaps very short of time, figured he would win the bishop back by playing 31....Rb1, but he overlooked that White can play 32. Re8+ , foiling that plan. You ever do something like that?

  vonKrolock: Very brief comments in the Tournament's book - just a <?> for 30...Bxc3 ?? - Before, the commentator, Walter John, awarded another <?> for white's 23.Ra1: quote<<"Es musste De5 geschehen; 23.De5 Sf6 24.Dc7:+ Te7 25.Sd8+ und gew.">>
Jan-16-08   paladin at large: <vonKrolock> The comments make no sense - there is no black knight which can go to f6 <23....Sf6>

(S= Springer= knight, for other kibitzers)

whiteshark: <aladin at large> It's only a small typo in the quote.

quote<<"Es musste De5 geschehen; 23.De5 <Lf6> 24.Dc7:+ Te7 25.Sd8+ und gew.">>

23.Qe5!! is indeed the winning move, but after 23...Bf6 24.Qxc7+ <Kg8> is better than 24...Re7, though lost anyway. :D

Jan-16-08   paladin at large: Thanks for the contributions from the dusty past.
