Aug-31-04   QueensGambitAccepted: Tal compliments Chiburdanidze in his last book writing he would have traded his silver medal to sign the score sheet for white! Good Game.

  Benzol: A marvellous tactical brawl!
I don't suppose 30...Ne8 is much of an improvement over 30...Kf7.

Incidentally <Honza> I thought this game might be fun for you to have a look at G Ligterink vs R Nokes, 1981

Oct-30-04   Shams: lovely game, yes.
does black have to take the second knight? why not 13.Nc6 d4, after which if white`s e-pawn moves then black can grab the knight with tempo (hitting the queen)

  Benzol: <Shams> If 13.Nd6 d4 14.Bxf6 with the idea of 15.Nxd4

TheAlchemist: <chessgames.com> GM Mikhalchishin once presented this game in his column in a Slovenian chess magazine ("Chess Thought" would be the translation) with the game ending with 29.Qxf8+, which seems reasonable, not to mention the horrible 30...Kf7.
Jun-07-05   Shams: hmm, following Benzol -- what about 13.Nd6 d4 14.Bxf6 gxf6 when 15.Nxd4 Qxd4 16.Bxb5 Qxd1 leaves black up a ton of material. White would need a better 15th move.
Nov-14-06   Haeron: As it happens, Kasparov says in his second Najdorf DVD that the best move for black on move 12 would have been Qxd4!

  whiteshark: <13...dxe4 14.Bxe4 Nc5 15.Bxf6 gxf6 16.Bd5+ Kd7 17.Qh5 Kc7 18.Qxf7+ Nd7> looks like a better, workable defence.

  birthtimes: Tal says 12...Qxd4 is taboo and gives 13. Bxf6 gxf6 14. Bxb5 and 15. Nxf6+
