cu8sfan: What a pun! Thanks cg.com for usually giving me the first laugh in the morning.
Sep-21-04  hollowone: 4. Qxd4?

I'm unfamiliar with this particular variant of the Sicilian, having always believed that it's purely a loss of tempo after the eventual ... Nc6. Are there any lines in which this development is favourable for white over 4. Nxd4?

Sep-21-04  notsodeepthought: <hollowone> You can search on this site for more information on this line (Eco Code B53) - the results show that black wins about 36% of the time, white only about 29% of the time. This suggests - though I realize it's an oversimplification - that this line may be used more for surprise value than for its actual worth.

acirce: <hollowone> On the immediate 4..Nc6, White plays 5.Bb5 and exchanges off the knight so as to keep the queen centralized. After 5..Bd7 6.Bxc6 Bxc6 7.Nc3 Nf6 8.Bg5 e6 9.0-0-0 many sharp lines can occur. Rogozenko in <Anti-Sicilians. A Guide for Black> recommends 4..a6 so as to be able to drive the queen away with tempo like you suggest. Overall, 4.Qxd4 seems pretty much as good as any other anti-Sicilian.

kevin86: I get the pun,but isn't it a bit cruel? I don't know anything about her-is she a witch? Is she like Natasha Fatale? I don't think so.

We all need to pray for Rodney Dangerfield;he has been in a coma from heart surgery-but has shown signs of life. So let's give him some respect!

Sep-21-04  catfriend: About 4.Q:d4
I play it, so I"ll try to explain a bit why it isn't a blunder... {4..Nc6{ is answered naturally by 5.Bb5, and though black has the two bishops, white' activity in the center is higher. For example: 5..Bd7 6.B:Nc6 b:Bc6 7.Nc3 Nf6 8.0-0 and I prefer playing as white. Of course, black can play 6..B:Bc6, but it isn't so great an improvement, if at all.
Sep-21-04  Everett: 20.g3?
Sep-21-04  ragnar0C: why not 23.gxf4 ?

  Willem Wallekers: I don't like 6. Qd2 blocking the Bishop, nor 9. Rb1 wasting a tempo.

<Everett> 20. Bf3 seems a little better but White is already in big trouble.

<ragnar0C> Elementary, pawn g3 is pinned.

I find Ms. Horn underachieving for her rating.

acirce: In fact she had no ELO rating at the time of the game, that is if the date as given in the scoresheet here is accurate. But it was also her last day without one!

Willem Wallekers: So she has 2025 now?
Doesn't change my point of view.

acirce: She has 2049 as of now but I guess that doesn't change it either :-)

This your 5204th kibitzing.
Is that some kind of a record? :-)

acirce: Probably, but I have no record-breaking ambitions, I just don't have a life :-)
