Jun-23-04  notsodeepthought: It's late, so apologies if I'm missing something obvious - but doesn't 127 ... Qe6 force 128 Kh4 (zugzwang), followed by 128 ... Qh6 mate? So why is the score 1-0?
Jun-23-04  poktirity: Maybe Kakageldyev missed that to =)
Jun-23-04  blitzkrieg: would it be possible that black forfeited the time, that is why it is 1-0?
Jun-23-04  Anubis33: The score is in error. White resigned. Here's the full story on this fascinating "tragedy"...

Honza Cervenka: Of course, the result should be 0-1.

Poor Moussa! It is always very bad to lose such a game and much worse when it occurs in a team contest like Olympiad.

Jun-23-04  JSYantiss: notsodeep, it is late, but you are definitely right on here. White resigned because mate is unavoidable, as you so astutely pointed out. 128...Qh6#
Jun-23-04  killaa: Moussa must have felt like he'd run a marathon only to take a wrong turn a few steps from the finsih line! What was 86 Kd4 all about?
Jun-23-04  morphynoman2: Maybe a tragedy, but not at all a great game.

chessgames.com: <the result should be 0-1> Ooops, sorry about that. Anubis, thanks for posting that link. As you can see this game was not just lost once, but several times over.

kevin86: A nice little twopenny problem at the end. Very simple, but a good lesson in zugzwang.

White blew this one several times, especially being a knight ahead,we all should "86" his 86th move-kind of like some of my "eggs".

Jun-23-04  mack: <kilaa>
A bit like Short the other day, only he ran a marathon, was way ahead, then fell flat on his face.
Oct-25-07  Jack the turtle: I believe the move 127...Qe6 was played before white resigned - this is not showing in the score right now.
Sep-17-09  dumbgai: This is the kind of game that would make me want to quit chess.

NM JRousselle: It's very difficult to believe that a grandmaster would not win this with White after having a knight for a pawn in the ending.
