Jun-21-04  Whitehat1963: I think black has nowhere to go now.
Jun-21-04  Calculoso: <acrice> Thanks.
Jun-21-04  Whitehat1963: Now h4?
Jun-21-04  mack: We can see the problems with ...h6 now; black is just out of ideas. <acrire> re: draws, yeah, fair point.
Jun-21-04  arifattar: i am no expert but this looks a King + 2P draw ending to me

Gypsy: <<there will be mating net under construction.> I don't see it!> Black bishop maneuver Bd3-c5-d3 was to tear up the net up a bit. Black pawns certainly can be made untouchable ... as long as Black king is safe. It could be trapped on g6, if not vigilant; then destroyed by Be8. That is why Black has some difficulties with his fortress-building efforts.

acirce: Black doesn't have to have any positive ideas if he can build a fortress White can't force! Now, White can of course play Bd3+ getting rid of the annoying knight but that doesn't seem wise.
Jun-21-04  apprenticetocaissa: if i were playing i would trade the bishop for the knight.
Jun-21-04  schweppz: what about Bd7+, NXB
RXB then pick up the d pawn ?
Jun-21-04  mack: what does Ba4 look like now?
Jun-21-04  mack: <acirce>, I don't think I've typed your name correctly all afternoon.

  acirce: <mack> I don't think so either. ;)

Ba4 (now or in last move) allows d3+ for what it's worth.

Jun-21-04  Whitehat1963: I think black is simply trying to draw. The centralized knight and pawn keep the king out of the center for a good while. Meanwhile, the black king is pretty safe from harm where it is. This looks like a draw to me.
Jun-21-04  duboy77: ....d3 check and the draw would have been accepted by both?
Jun-21-04  mack: I don't think d3+ is a very good idea...
Jun-21-04  Calculoso: d3+? That would just drop the bishop at e3 because it is undefended.
Jun-21-04  mack: That's what I was getting at.
Jun-21-04  apprenticetocaissa: d3+ drops the bishop
Jun-21-04  Calculoso: We were typing simultaneously...

acirce: We're talking about an earlier position of course, <Calculoso>. Anyway.. Really thrilling game. In many other positions the fortress-building would have been elementary, this has been critical all along.
Jun-21-04  duboy77: it was ...d3 on 54. before the bishop was placed on e3

Ragar: Can anyone tell me how Adams is getting on?
Jun-21-04  MatrixManNe0: Is this live right now!?

acirce: Adams will draw, with all certainty. But no more as he is down a pawn in an opposite-coloured bishops endgame.
Jun-21-04  MatrixManNe0: Ah, never mind...
