  fredthebear: 35.Nd4 looks reckless, but the White bishop is immune from capture. If 35.QxBc5, then 35...Nxd6 forks the capturing Black queen and the mating square.

Speaking of knights, perhaps 53...Nb6 was a better try for Black.
