Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-14-04   Shadout Mapes: The threat of Qe6+ ends it.
Aug-14-04   hollowone: That's if black plays 28. ... Rg8??

The only two moves available at this stage that don't lead to a relatively prompt mate are either 28 ... Qxb2?!, a desperate and hopeless sacrifice that opens up the enemy king's position but won't manage to turn the tide, and 28. ... Rf6, which concedes the rook to 29. Bg5 but gives the black king time to escape, extending the agony for a few more moves.

Aug-14-04   themindset: 17...0-0 ??
how could someone be so optically challenged?

kevin86: Castling doesn't look bad;it gets the rook into play. However, the principal reason for castling-to protect the king-is not present. In fact, the monarch is open to attack on the h-file.

It looks like black castled on reflex not to gain an advantage.

Aug-14-04   Calchexas: Would 17..Kd7 give the king protection (as well as bring the rook into play?) My copy of Fritz is at my dad's house, so I don't know.
Aug-14-04   Saruman: I think the black pawnstructure should need an extreme makeover as early as move 7!

How does one get this to appear in brown as a response - rather than my cut and paste? Also, Is Fritz freeware or what? "My copy" makes it sound ubiquitous.

Zenchess: Black missed a chance to get the better game with 13...Nxh4 14. Rxh4 Bxg5, simply winning a Pawn. On move 17, better would have been 17...exf4 18. exf4 Rb8 19. Kd2! although White would have had the better game due to his central pawn roller.

vonKrolock: 13.Ng5 seems to be an original Boey's idea, it will be interesting to compare his own analysis, but en passant it appears that 13...Nxh4 14.Rxh4 Bxg5 etc isnt particullarly dangerous for Black...

Zenchess: Correspondence players make mistakes just like the rest of us. I see some correspondence and e-mail games on chessbase's online db and I'm surprised at the poor quality of games I find there. I wonder why that is.

vonKrolock: <Zenchess> The position is perhaps inviting for an attack whith eventual sacrifices, but is quite evident that the Knight - alone & whithout the support from 'h4' - will not play a great role in enemy's field...
