At our level, 71.Kd6 wold have been worth a shot, since the hasty 71...f1Q?? 72.Bxf1 Bxf1 73.Kc5! is drawn. White will be able to play a3-a4, creating a worthless Black a-pawn which he will be able to get in front of.

However, in a Soviet Championship, Black would laugh derisively, play 71...Kg3, and that would be that.
