Chessical: MacDonnell maintains his radical defence (see Mackenzie vs G MacDonnell, 1862) and again adopts a dual fianchetto and a restricted centre, but now varies his strategy by pushing for an early <c5> rather than <f5>.

Mackenzie plays cautiously avoiding <9.f4>, but unlike in Game 8 he now plays <Bh6> to be rid of the fianchettoed Black square Bishop.

<15...Rh8> seems rather passive as either <15....c4> or <15.....e5> would have begun Q-side counterplay.

<16....h5> would have stymied Mackenzie's plans on the K-side for the time being. MacDonnell does not seem to understand the threat he is facing.

After being presented with <19....R(e)g8?> Mackenzie rips his opponent's King-side apart in an extremely accurate manner.
