Feb-10-05		beatgiant: Probably White's win is 36...a5 37. b3 h5 38. g3 f5 39. f4 similar to the game, and then 39...gxf4 40. gxf4 h4 41. a4 with zugzwang. Looks like <Honza> is right, as usual!

Feb-10-05		beatgiant: But another possible improvement for Black is 34...d4 35. Ke2 Ke6 36. Kd3 Kd5 37. b4 f5 and it looks like White's in danger (38. a4 a5, or 38. g3 a6 39. g4 f4, etc.)

Feb-10-05		aw1988: Obviously Englisch has no intuition. Who would go into a pawn endgame with Paulsen's queenside pawns looking so dangerous?

Feb-11-05		beatgiant: <aw1988> <Obviously Englisch has no intuition.> It is not so obvious to me, because Black has the plan of undermining the c-pawn. This works well for Black in the lines I gave above starting with 34...d4. Did you find something strong for White against this possibility?

Feb-11-05		euripides: Interesting. White's Q-side pawns give White more opportunity to temporise than Black gets from the K-side, so White wins the zugzwang battle.
