sac with White vaguely hopeful of P promotion. To think
Bisguier declined the draw offer!

| Nov-14-11 | | weary willy: "It's only me" is an anagram of "Tony Miles" and one of Tony's handles on the Internet Chess Club. "Tony Miles: It's only me" is the title of a book about England's first OTB Grandmaster, complied by Geoff Lawton. Whilst GM Keene's book may be technically better, the Lawton book lets Tony's humanity - and the genuine affection of those that knew him - shine through. I was a near-contemporary of Miles, went to the same school and palyed in the same rugby team. I had the privilege of watching this game being played. One of the first games that announced Tony as a contender. |

| Nov-14-11 | | Oceanlake: On move 16, White is completely developed while Black has two sitting rooks and a king in the way. So, why the wing attack? |

| Nov-14-11 | | rilkefan: At a depth of 30 (2.4 Gnodes) stockfish thinks black is up by 0.7 after Nxd5 (which it thinks is the main line after Nh4). It much prefers 22...Bb4 to ...b6. After 23.Re4 Ke6 24.Rb5 Be7 25.Rxb7 Ng6 it's continuing (28, 1.9G) to like the N vs 3 connected passed pawn endgame, which frankly I find scary. |

 | | Shams: I don't understand <wordfunph>'s comment below. If Bisguier would have taken a draw, why didn't he? |
 |
| Nov-14-11 | | rilkefan: I assumed "would" is a typo for "should". |
 |
| Nov-14-11 | | AnalyzeThis: The game is courageous play on Miles' part, because Bisquier was a great expert on this defense. During the game, Miles might have been concerned that the position would have been something Bisguier had studied before the game in home analysis - but he played his courageous attack anyway. |

 | | rogl: <kevin86: What happens after black counters exf8=Q with Kh7! (?)> White has a queen for a rook and a knight plus four pawns so he is clearly winning. He must be careful though so he doesn't play a move like 41. d6??. At first sight this might look like a good move since black will lose his knight if he takes the pawn with 41... xc2. However, black will play 41... f5! click for larger view
this threatens white's queen and the perpetual g3+ h2 f1+ h1 etc, and black will get a draw. |

 | | NM JRousselle: What happens after 22... Bb4, hitting the rook? The idea is to gain time for Ke6, preventing White's e6. White can get 3 pawns for the piece, but Black's g4 is looming. Can White claim advantage after 22... Bb4? |
 |
| Nov-14-11 | | sfm: 'Tony Miles' is good for anagrams, which can be seen on http://wordsmith.org/anagram/anagra... |
 |
| Nov-15-11 | | rilkefan: <<NM JRousselle:> Can White claim advantage after 22... Bb4?> See above for stockfish's opinion.
I followed up a few hours of computer time and didn't find lines where white avoids the loss of qside pawns and/or kside pawns and a growing disadvantage. |
