May-17-06  Peter Reeve: Epic game, with impressive endgame strategy!

Some bizarre knight moves in the opening, too.

I don't understand why 24.…Kf7 and I don't understand why not 35.…Rg7 And I must admit that after about move 50 I thought black had a winning position on account of the a pawn. But of course it was too vulnerable.

May-17-06  SnoopDogg: Not to distract from this game, but I just have to say this. GM Ovsejevitsch is possibly the worst blitz player that is a grandmaster.

xenophon: when was this game lost for black?Did he have to go into a N vs B endgame?
May-17-06  kellmano: In the final position, if black keeps checking witht he knight, how would white win? If he moves his king away from f6 or g6, then h7 is no longer a threat. E.g. .....Nh5+, Kg6 - Nf4+, Kf6 - Nh4+, Kg5, then some old knight move like .....Ng3 can be played as h7 can be met by .....Kg7. I am sure there is a relatively straightforward win, but would like someone to point it out to me.
May-17-06  nuwanda: <kellmano> what about 72...Nh5 73.Kg5 Ng3 74.Kg6 ?
May-17-06  fxenderby: what about "genius kruppa"!! or is it too old a reference..
May-17-06  kellmano: <nuwanda> cheers - that'll do it.
May-17-06  JohnBoy: Like most of the above commentators, I don't like (or maybe don't understand) black's play here at several points. <Peter Reeve> mentions several difficulties, as does xenophon. Could black not try to maintain a blockade on the queen side with 54...a5? I suppose white then tries to snatch a k-side pawn with 55.Nf2 (to go to g4) Be2, and I am not quite sure that there is a clear-cut winning strategy for white.

Honza Cervenka: <I don't understand why not 35.…Rg7> Maybe that Ovsejevitsch overlooked 37.Nd8 when he played 35...Kh8. After 35...Rg7 36.Qh4 white seems to be okay thanks to weaknesses in Black's position.
May-17-06  kevin86: It looked to the world that white would lose the knight, instead a brilliant move to d8 starts a wild chain reaction that simplifies the game in a hurry-to the good of white.
May-17-06  EmperorAtahualpa: Not really a very interesting match, IMHO. The pun is very inventive though!

36.Nxe6, nice shot..!

May-17-06  dakgootje: First doubted whether white could prevent blacks a-pawn from promoting without the need of saccing the bishop or knight, but it worked out fine for Kruppa.

not a very special game, but with some good endgame moves.

May-17-06  Maatalkko: Isn't Ovsejevitsch the guy who is a 1700 blitz player online? If so then yes, he has to be the worst blitz GM ever.

I guess he doesn't mess around, and only spends his time studying "serious" chess. That's a good plan for maximum success in tournaments, I suppose.

May-17-06  SnoopDogg: <Maatalkko> Actually that would be WGM Agababean (rumors that she bought her title as well). The reason I call him th worst blitz GM is because he gets horrible positions and uses up alot of time. Plus he has no sense of tactics in blitz. Check out this cool position I got on him. White to play and win after 25. Nf6?!

May-17-06  Tariqov: <Snoopdogg>Qxf5

May-19-06  Maatalkko: Yes, Qxf5 is an awesome move. Congrats on the great game - how did you get him into such a bad position anyhow?

Agababean probably did buy her title is she is only 1700 at blitz. It's pretty hard to imagine a WGM who some of my friends could beat at blitz in their sleep.
