mjk: White passes up an easy win with 69.Kf4 and then tosses the win altogether with 72.Qb8+? <Nalimov>.
Dec-08-04   CHEG: 69 Qb8+ Ka1 70 Ke3 a2 White's queen must move off the b file to avoid stalemate, and the pawn queens.

For the win White just needs to get the queen in front of black's pawn.

69. Qh1+ Kb2 70 Qg2+ Kb1 71 Qf1+ Kb2 72 Qe2+ Kb1 73 Qd1+ Kb2 74 Qd2+

two possible finishes from here.

75... Kb3 76 Qc1 Ka2 77 Ke3 Kb3 78 Qa1
white brings the king over and easily wins the pawn.

73...Kb1 74 Qb4+ Ka2 75 Qc3
Black's only move no longer protects the pawn.

  kevin86: White missed an easy-and somewhat comical-win after 69 Qb8 Ka1 70 Qb4 Ka2 71 Kf4 and black must abandon the pawn.
Aug-30-07   dovif: 69 QC3 Forces B1 QxP easier?

kevin86: <dovil> actually your move works and mine doesn't! Black has an escape in 69Qb8 Ka1 70 Qb4?? a2 and the game will be drawn!

The way to win in the position with the rook on the sixth is to get the queen to c3---in this case it can be done as you said.
