Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-20-04  Hidden Skillz: great display by gelfand
Oct-20-04  acirce: 16..Kxf7? wasn't necessary, which doesn't mean that White's play wasn't sound. Black would have survived after either 16..Nxf4 17.Nxd8 Rxd8 or 16..Qb6 17.Bxd5 Be6
Oct-20-04  Hidden Skillz: all the variations favor white tho..if ud just look at the position
Oct-20-04  acirce: Yes, they probably do, but ..Kf7? loses quickly.
Oct-28-04  notyetagm: Nice miniature win by Gelfand.
Apr-15-07  laskersteinitz: This game is featured in Valeri Beim's "How To Calculate Chess Tactics" (p.66). Lots of very difficult variations to grapple with here. By the way, Beim gives 16...Qb6 a "?", but I'm too lazy to copy the variation he gives. Apparently, 16...Ne3 keeps Black afloat, despite White coming out slightly better in the end of that variation as well. This is all pretty much over my head though, I hope this is all helping my game anyways.
Jan-22-08  who: If anyone is interested in further reading, this weeks book review of Grandmaster Miniatures shows Nunn's analysis.
