Sneaky: Why is Black so quick to give up his knight? 17...Nce7 fails to 18.Qe8+ but what's wrong with 17...Qd7?
Dec-09-04   Cyphelium: <Sneaky> Black cannot save the piece after 17.- Qd7 18. Qd3 Nce7 19. fxg5!. The threat is 20. c6 followed by 21. Bc5, winning the piece back under very favourable circumstances (a pawn up etc). It seems black can do nothing to prevent this. His best line of defence might be 19.- Bg7 20. c6 bxc6 21. Bc5 Bxe5 22. Bxe7 Qxe7 23. Qxf5+ Kb7, but white should win that position. Black's pawns are much weaker (and fewer).

(19. c6? immediatly doesn't work because of 19.- bxc6 20. Bc5 h5.)

Sneaky: I knew 17...Qd7 looked artificial but I coudn't quite see how to bust it. Thanks.
