Jun-15-06  blingice: 12..Nxa5 wasn't any good. Paragua was simply drawing that knight to a place where it wasn't defending e5, where he could advance his pawn and displace the knight of f6.

What would happen if 14..fxd5?

Otherwise, fantastic attack. Paragua played very aggressively, and he sacrificed the right pieces.

Jun-15-06  bartolome: 14.. fxd5 15. Nxd4 ..exd4 16. Qxd4+ ..Kh8 17. Rxa5
Jun-15-06  blingice: Oh, that's a pretty creative fork.
Feb-25-07  aazqua: This looks like a complete cook - the game was part of paragua's preparation and jong simply didn't know not to play the move. Clearly the knight move and decline of queen trade leads to a position in which white is vastly superior, which means the initial n*p is an automatic loss unless their is a better continuation. Such is chess in the age of the computer.
May-10-07  jellyace: @aazqua: Please avoid using literally translasted slang terms (lutÚ -> cook) And are you sure that the game was manipulated? Is that a documented fact? Who goes to a tournament prepared for all possible moves?? Paragua obviously didn't visualize such a position or a specific move before the game started, you know. If he can do that, then he must win every game he plays!

About the game: on the 18th move, he could have tried 18. ... Nd8 19. exf7+ Nxf7 20. Bd3 Qd7, etc. though this position is still favorable for white.

Thanks to ... Nxa5, white enjoyed the bishop pair. But what should Koonjong have done on his twelfth move? I myself find no better moves than it. I even tried a couple of chess software, and they did ... Nxa5 too. Am I lost here or something?

Nov-09-08  Sim1: I don't think that cook in this case means it was manipulated, just that Paragua's prep was very deep. This is an amazing game, playing it through on guess the move is very difficult. The opening is all text until a5 and then it's hard to see all the combo's until the final one...then it's easy to get all of the mating sacs. Really sharp play. I'm impressed.
May-09-10  ka.chessmate21: pina haba mo pa tol!!!!
galing ng pinoy!!!
May-02-14  paramount: Poor Goh Koon Jong.

He would have had an upper side of the game in the opening.

Dude, what's wrong with 13...dxe5 14.fxe5 Qxe5...its abosolutely REASONABLE

FSR: This must have been planned by using my <Mason Jarred> for yesterday's GOTD, and <Jason Marred> today. Cute.

Phony Benoni: <FSR> I submitted this one after seeing "Mason Jarred" in the Pun Voting Booth. Couldn't resist.

offramp: Mason jars are perfect for preserving human brains, especially those of expired psychopaths.
May-02-14  mrknightly: How about "Jason gets fleeced"
May-02-14  goodevans: <paramount: ... Dude, what's wrong with 13...dxe5 14.fxe5 Qxe5>

15.Bf4 Qc5 16.Na4 is a little unpleasant for black.

catlover: I guess the pun means that Jason marred Goh Koon Jong's tournament record.
May-02-14  JohnBoy: <Phony> - nice! I couldn't figure it out, but the explanation from <FSR> and you clarifies this as a delightful pun.
May-02-14  psmith: <goodevans> It is not clear to me in your line why the unpleasantness isn't compensated for by the two extra pawns.

kevin86: On Friday the 13th, all of the canning supplies were destroyed. It proves that Jason mars Mason Jars.

  Domdaniel: "Moron juiced" ... ?
Premium Chessgames Member
tamar: The exact meaning is that we all expected to see Jason Goh Koon-Jong with extreme prejudice but before that happened we saw Mark pour Aqua all over him, and that pretty much explains the result.

FSR: <Phony Benoni> Ah, you're the culprit. Cute!
May-02-14  goodevans: <psmith: <goodevans> It is not clear to me in your line why the unpleasantness isn't compensated for by the two extra pawns.>

Where is black to put his Q? If <...Qd5> then <Nb6>. If <...Qb4> then <c3>. Only <...Qa7> of all places after which white has <Qd2> followed by <Be3> and establishing a piece on b6.
