Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-11-05  Whitehat1963: What's the finish?
Feb-11-05  hintza: <Whitehat1963> <What's the finish?> Must every resigned game have a finish? White's advantage is just so superior that Black resigned. There is no immediate "finish" as such. The key point is that afer 28.c3! the White queen controls b1, the queening square of Black's advanced passed b-pawn. After this Black has very limited options. For example, if 28...Bf8 then 29.Nxc6 Bxc6 30.Bxc6 bxa4 31.Bxa4, and clearly White wins. Or 28...bxa4 29.Qc2 a3 30.Ng6+ Kg8 31.Qb3+ d5 32.Qxb7 and again Black is lost.
