Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-22-04   Pawsome: Did white lose on time? 1. Nc3 Qxb4+ 2. Kh1 Qf3+ 3. Kg1 Qe3+ 4. Kh1 0-0 5. Qc6 Qe5 6. Qg2 Rd1 7. Rg1 Bf5 8. Rf1 Rb1 9. a4 for example, and white holds on.
Dec-23-04   Cyphelium: <Pawsome> White might have lost on time, but he does have some tricky problems to solve. After 23. Nc3 Qxg4+ 24. Kh1 Rd2 25. Qc6 h5, I think it's hard for white to parry the threat of Qh3, for example 26. Rg1 Qh3 27. Rg2 Rxg2 28. Qxg2 Bb7 29. Nd5 Bxd5 30. Qxd5 Qf1 mate or 26. Qe4 Qh3 27. Ne2 Bb7 28. Qxb7 Rxe2 .
Dec-24-04   Pawsome: <Cyphelium>You're right. I think white can squirm out with 26. e6 Qh3 27. exf7+ Kf7 28. Qc4+ Kg6 29. Rg1+ Kh7 30. Qe4+ Bf5 31. Qf4 Rc2 32. Qf3 Qg3 33. Rg3 Rb2 34. Re3, but he'll probably lose the ending anyway. I'm sure I'm missing a sharp tactical shot in the above. I suppose one of those silicon marvels could show us the way. Still, Martin of the Country should have dooked it out. Happy winter solstice and a Merry Humbug too!
