Jan-24-13  Shams: The pun explained, for non-fans of Hayao Miyazaki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Nei...
Jan-24-13  weisyschwarz: Non-fans of who?

What is wrong with "House of Todor"?

Jan-24-13  PaulLovric: Like First...........lol
Jan-24-13  PaulLovric: It's not an early resign
Jan-24-13  Abdel Irada: I wonder if Todor Todorov was inspired by my friendly 1980s rival Maroth de Marothy.

I am convinced that the main reason I lost my sole tournament game against him was that I hypnotized myself by allowing his name to become a mantra. (Of course, playing out a 124-move draw the night before probably didn't help either.)

Jan-24-13  ounos: 20. bxa6 and for example 20. ...Rxb6 21. Ra7+ and Rc7, the two connected passers decide

Pretty rare to enter such a late endgame as soon as move 20

HeMateMe: I thought it was a reference to the famous russian author Tyador Todorevsky.
Jan-24-13  morfishine: What a great game. White is breaking in through 2 doors
Jan-24-13  tommy boy: The pun maybe also refers to common border between Bulgaria (Todorov) and Serbia (Kovacevic)
Jan-24-13  chessthomas: what about 17. - Bd4,
attacking Ra1, with a piece up for black.
am I missing something here?

perfidious: <chessthomas> On 17....Bd4, White keeps on coming with 18.a6 and 19.a7, whether or not his opponent snatches the rook.
Jan-24-13  chessthomas: now that is <perfidious>! thank you very much!
Jan-24-13  goodevans: "It's not an early resign"

Resign - verb

Resignation - noun

This website may be helping to keep interest in chess alive and well but it's murdering the English language.

Jan-24-13  bachiller: <goodevans>, there are quite a few of us, visitors of this site, whose mother tongue is not English. That might explain the misuse of it, though it is no justification.

I really appreciate posts like yours, helping us to improve our English (kind of a mighty beast we have to fight with).

Thanks.

Jan-24-13  Castleinthesky: <FSR> The same director, Miyazaki, created "Castle In the Sky" a classic animated film, hence the pun in my handle.
Jan-24-13  kevin86: White's pawn advantage will result in a new queen soon.

TheAlchemist: Excellent pun. Almost all of Miyazaki's catalogue is well worth the watch.
Jan-24-13  waustad: "House of Todor" makes a lot more sense to me, but I know a lot more about the War of the Roses than I do about anime. Sorry, geezer alert ;)

However, narrow-minded people with perverse priorities may murder the website itself.

Jan-24-13  nalinw: Nice to hear from other Miyazaki fans on the site

Well-spoken.

Jan-25-13  goodevans: <sfm> Displaying an interest in something other than chess is perverse and narrow-minded?
Jan-25-13  goodevans: <weisyschwarz> <bachiller>

Point taken.

I can imagine that it is a difficult language for those whose mother tongue is not English. Then there are those for whom it is their first language but who have no desire to cherish it.

Jan-29-13  newzild: I still don't get the "pun". Todorov and Kovacevic are not neighbours.
Jan-30-13  IndigoViolet: The puns this week have been crap!
