Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-17-05  Jonber: Seems to me Carlsen could have secured a comfortable advantage with:

19...Rb8 20.Rxb8 Nxb8.

To bad, though a draw against a strong player like Heine Nielsen is off course also a nice result.

Jan-17-05  MoonlitKnight: I think 19...Rb8 was winning, but unfortunately (for us Magnus fans), he played Nd4 like it was a casual game of blitz.
Jan-18-05  Poulsen: What are you talking about? 19.-,Rb8?? loses the knight on c6?!
Jan-18-05  acirce: <Poulsen> Looks like that, but 19..Rb8 20.Qxc6 Rxb1 21.Rxb1 Qf5! wins it back with decisive advantage. Nice trick, a real pity he missed it.
Jan-18-05  Jonber: White could also try 19…Rb8 20.Bh6, moving the bishop out of the way and aiming at the rook, threatening to win the exchange. But Black responds by 20…Nb4, hitting the queen and gaining the time to save the rook.

19…Rb8 20.Bh6 Nb4! 21.Qc4 Rd8

20…Nb4 is an awkward sort of move, which brings me to believe Magnus saw Qf5 in response to Qxc6 but missed Nb4 in response to Bh6. But that’s just an unsubstantiated guess, of course.
