Jonathan Sarfati: A good effort by Jensen in the endgame, and Sarapu's only loss in this NZ championship he won with 9/11, 1.5 point margin. However, Jensen offered a draw on move 21, and Sarapu quite reasonably declined because of his B-pair and black's dark-square weakness. 26. g5! would have been much better for White, while 26. gxf5 in the game was a miscalculation, hoping to mate on g8. Instead, it allowed ... Be6 and Black taking over the light squares.

Jensen missed an earlier win with 29... Qxc4 30. Qxc4 Nd2+ then ...Nxc4 winning Pa3. Sarapu praised Jensen's endgame skill with 42...Nf7 which surprised him. Lev Aptekar pointed out 44. Bd8! as still providing good drawing chances.

Jonathan Sarfati: Actually, although both Jensen and Sarapu thought that winning the pawn was better, it does activate the white K. I think Black would have done better to leave the Qs on, because Q+N would co-operate better than Q+B in this position because of White's shaky light sqaures.
