Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-03-05   THE pawn: Euh, is it me, or did white just screwed everything up?

Eric Schiller: <the pawn> Perhaps the ridiculous rating is deceptive. Max was just 15, rated 2219 I think. He was my student at the time. I have no idea how that 2500+ got assigned. At some point Chessgames should reassign proper FIDE ratings to all the games in the database.
Jun-05-05   Saruman: <Eric Shiller> It seems you missed a faster win with 28.-gxf1N+ 29.Kg1 Rxg5+ 30.Qg3 Rxg3+ 31.Rg2 Rxg2+ 32.Kh1 Nhg3 or Nfg3#

Eric Schiller: <Saruman> I am often guilty of playing a clean win when I see it, and not looking for better. Sometimes I get "artistic" and toss the game as a result.
Jun-05-05   WMD: Eric, where in this game is Dlugy guilty of going wrong?
Jun-05-05   SnoopDogg: How were you his teacher when he was rated about or higher than you are and he's 15 years old? Also how can a 2200 player play that badly?
Jun-05-05   Ziggurat: <Eric, where in this game is Dlugy guilty of going wrong?> I'm not Eric but the first clear mistake could be 18 Kh2? which hands the initiative to black instead of 18 fxe5 (18...dxe5 19 Bxe5) which wins a pawn.
Jan-14-06   HardBoys: Professional technique by Black until
move 20, when just 20...Nxf4 is a
good deal simpler than what Schiller did.

Strongest Force: Max was very strong at 15. whatever his real rating was, it wasn't a true reflection of his actual strength. I remember for example that when Max was 12 and had a 1500 rating he was only playing masters in casual blitz games- they were glad to play him! At 15 he was as strong as a senior master (2400) or IM. He got at least one IM norm in England of that year.

I just found this myself but most of us would be happy to just get a Q and win!

The point of "underpromoting" here is that there is NO chance for anything by White.

But this was a complex game well played by Eric Schiller!
