Jun-22-09		percyblakeney: Soviet had won every women's Olympiad they had participated in since 1957 but the sequence ended in 1988. Madl's boyfriend died in a car accident on the way to the event and she was rested several rounds but played against Soviet. Judit and Zsuzsa Polgar drew their games, but Madl won against her higher rated opponent and Hungary ended up 0.5 ahead of Soviet. Madl was still playing on the third board for Hungary in Dresden 2008 (and won the individual bronze).
