Apr-19-05  dac1990: Rook-and-minor pieced attacks are my favorite kinds. Shows that you don't need the Queen to win beautifully.

Eric Schiller: <dac1990> Thanks! I think the game also shows a nice twist on the Tarrasch Gambit theme of giving up the pawn at c5 and pushing the d-pawn. The pawn at d4 is so powerful that it really provides compensation all by itself.
Jul-26-05  Knight13: Nice game by Mr. Schiller!

Jul-26-05  blackjacki2: <Eric Schiller> Why is the C capitalized in Schiller in your profile?

Eric Schiller: <blackjack> someone typo'd me. It happens when you type quickly and don't release the SHIFT key fast enough.

PaulLovric: <Eric Schiller> in the notes you say first 12...c4!?, is that because it was the next best or an equal option at that time
Jul-26-05  ajile: lol! I was thinking 12..c4 too before I saw your comment. I don't see any downside to that move.

Eric Schiller: If I could play two moves, I would have liked to play both ...Ne4 and ...c4. I probably rejected ...c4 because normally I like to put my queen at a5 in such positions, and it was inconveniently at d7.

kevin86: White is down a full rook after the doomed knight is captured.Of course if BxB,RxN+ and the bishop is next.

White went the same way as the Ford Pinto.

Jul-26-05  aw1988: They say the board turns so dark that they know it's time, you see the sign.
Jul-26-05  peters4n6: On comment: 14...Nxc5 15.b4 !

Why advantage White?

What about 15....Nxb4

Eric Schiller: <Peters> The idea is that on 15...Nxb4, White plays 16.Ne5 followed by a3 and Nxd5. I think White has a small advantage in that position.
Jul-26-05  Chess Addict: And you said that White had a positional advantage in the opening? Good game to Schiller.

"If I could play two moves, I would have liked to play both ...Ne4 and ...c4. I probably rejected ...c4 because normally I like to put my queen at a5 in such positions, and it was inconveniently at d7."

I don't understand this. At move 12 for Black the Queen was still at D8. I was thinking play C4 now instead of Qd7. The option of Qa5 is still there with this sequence.
