Jun-02-05  InspiredByMorphy: Wouldnt 36. ...Kf5 have given black prospects of winning?
Premium Chessgames Member
WannaBe: <InspiredByMorphy> Shredder 9 came up with these lines...

36. ...♖e4
37. d5 ♖4e7
38. ♖d4 ♖f8
39. d6 ♖ef5
40. d7 ♖d8 6.17/16

36. ... ♔f5
37. d5 ♖6e7
38. d6 ♖h7
39. ♖h2 ♖d7
40. ♖d5+ ♔e6 5.55/17

The best line in black's favor is

36. ... ♖h8
37. ♔g4 ♖ee8
38. ♖e1 ♖h7
39. ♖g1 ♖eh8
40. ♔xf4 ♖xh4+ 3.05/15

  wwall: 24...f4 doesn't look good. Perhaps 24...Bh4, threatening 25...Ne3 26.Bxe3 Bxg3 27.hxg3 Qxg3+ 28.Kh1 Rxe3, now Black is winning.

Perhaps 28...Rc6 is better.

Perhaps 33...Re4 is better. If 34.Kg3, then 34...g4 35.fxg5 Rg4+ 36.Kf3 Rh8. If 34.Kf3, then 34...Rh8

Perhaps better for Black is 35...Kxg5, and if 36.Rdxe3 Rxe3 37.Rxe3 Rh8

Why not just 36.Kxf4, and if 36...Re4 37.Kf3 Kxg5 38.R2xe3

Feb-06-08  just a kid: After move 23 isn't Black winning?
