Dec-01-04  InspiredByMorphy: What a game by Morphy! He not only does a fantastic job of infiltrating the e-file but punishes black for opening the f-file by not allowing castling. If I were Morphys opponent I would be pretty intimidated after 16.Nc4 . Especially due to the fact Morphy was blindfolded in this game and it was a simul!
Dec-01-04  Whitehat1963: Is there such a thing as an unexciting game from Morphy?
Dec-01-04  Zembla: Nice flurry of activity at the end. I recently played over this game from Shibut's book on Morphy & had to go over it a few times it was so pleasing. BTW, does anyone else have that book?
Dec-01-04  InspiredByMorphy: <Zembla> Havent heard of Shibut's book. I have only heard of Sergeants book. I wonder if it has any games Sergeants doesent...
Dec-02-04  Zembla: <InspiredByMorphy>The Shibut book has 416 games (if you count some fragments and the well known problem) plus there is a supplemental booklet of 52 games. Dover came out with a paperback version. In addition to the games the book has a lot of discussion and analysis about Morphy's games.
Dec-06-04  InspiredByMorphy: <Zembla> Thanks for the info.
Jul-24-07  AAAAron: Is it just me or could Chessgames' little chess partner have beat anyone around during Morphy's time? Perhaps even Morphy himself. Hmmmmmm.....

It's just you. I am all for not showing excessive respect to Morphy-era masters (including Morphy), but let's not get carried away.

Joshka: This was also a Three Board Blindfold Exhibition!!
Sep-22-11  Llawdogg: The last five or six moves of this game are amazing! After fourteen moves, Morphy's queen side is still mostly undeveloped. Four of his last six moves consist of bringing his knight from b1 all the way to c8. Does the position after 15 ... c6 look like white to move and mate in five?
Sep-22-11  SatelliteDan: Every time I play over a Morphy game I get inspired. I learned how to play chess by getting a Morphy book from the Liberary on his games and played them. I was hooked.
Sep-22-11  OrigamiArtist: As was often the case, Morphys opponent plays some poor moves to allow such a quick crush. 6...Ne4 is a fairly obviously bad move but perhaps 6...d5 was not such a well known idea back then. 7.Re1 looks like it might be better than 7.Bd5. 15....c6 is also a terrible move but by this stage the game is already more or less lost for black.
