Aug-23-07  Mateo: <think: Why not 44. ... Rxf2 45. Bxf2 a1=Q?> 44...Rxf2 45.Bxf2 h1Q, then 46.Rxh1 Qxh1+ 47.Kb2. White threatens a7. Thus, it seems that Black has to play 47...Qa8. But after 48.Rd6 with the idea a7 it looks balanced.

kevin86: There is a lot of unusual trading in this game-not to mention the added force (and potential force) of far-advanced pawns. In the end, white is ahead two rooks and a piece for a queen-but much accept a draw because his only escape of the checks is to lose the game!

The game LOOKS far ahead of its time-if chess is actually that good in the future-then the game has as rich a future as it has a history.

Aug-23-07  diemjay: Wonderful game.

fm avari viraf: I think, this is just a sample game of the 23rd century but there is lot of work left for the Masters to put their Brains together to unfold the real Beauty Of Chess!
Aug-23-07  RookFile: I wonder how many trips each player made to the bathroom?

WannaBe: The game lasted 60 moves? I'd say they went to the bathroom 61 times.
Aug-23-07  kingsindian2006: it takes two good players to tango like this for so long. Beautiful game for chess fans.
Aug-23-07  DutchKnight: <kingsindian2006>...Or two small computers
Aug-23-07  mallocks: <MindCtrol9> Looking at the original line, after 15...Nxe4 Rybka at 16-ply gives:

+0.13 16.Qd4 f6 17.Nd3 Nc3 18.Bd2 Nxd1 &c.

by contrast after 15...Qa5
Rybka, again on 16-ply, is looking at:

+0.65 16.a4 Nxe4 17.Qg2 Qb6 18.Nc4 dxc4 19.Rxd7 Bd6 &c.

Evidently Nxe4 is an important move given that it does it at the next available opportunity. I put it into Chessmaster for a bit of variety, and after 15...Qa5 16.a4 not only does it still have 16...Nxe4 as the best move (+0.75) but it evaluates the next best move (16...Bc6) at over a pawn worse (+1.83) [16...Bc6 17.exd5 Qxd5 18.Bg2 Qxd2+ 19.Rxd2 Nxg4 &c.].

Seemingly, although I'd be the first to admit I'm not great at computer analysis, 15... Nxe4 is the best move available and 15... Qa5 does nothing to help the position.

Hope that helped.

Aug-23-07  lau7aro: Difficult game to follow
Aug-23-07  GrandPatzerSCL: Why not 20... e5?
Aug-23-07  PAWNTOEFOUR: fantastic game!!........even though i didn't understand most of it..it was still fun to play over.....time to take my buddy out!!....."shredder,come here boi"
Aug-23-07  mworld: <GrandPatzerSCL: Why not 20... e5?>

I thought this very same thing, but I think the reasoning was that if Rxb4 afterwards and then bxe5 that blacks pawn structure would be very weak and open up files for whites rooks to start attacking the king.

I wish I was able to spurt out specific lines of moves and what ifs...but im not given tons of time to look at this everyday..however, i still think that was the strategic reason why black chose to support the b pawn with a5 instead of forking the rook and bishop with e5.

Aug-23-07  PAWNTOEFOUR: <grandpatzerSCL>...after ...e5, shredder gives this after 83 minutes and 1,848,292,429 nodes......1.Rxd5 Qc8 2.Nxe5 fxe5 3.Bxe5 Kg8 4.Rf1 Be6 5.Rd6 a5......don't ask me to explain anything....cause i couldn't..hope this helps

notyetagm: This game must surely be the most exciting draw of all time.

I have a reputation for not like draws but draws like this are ok by me. What an incredible game!

Sep-10-07  intensifier: has anyone else seen a more tactical game than this? what a game, hey does some1 wish to challenge me please reply
Sep-14-07  Sularus: I know it's a draw and all but...

1. Is black's 14th move sound?

2. I wonder why white didnt try to hold on to that edge (a knight for two pawns) by playing 16. Qe1. What are black's threats if so?

Sep-14-07  ikipemiko: Maybe Nc3 with following N:a2 and Qa5
Sep-22-07  sledgehammer: WannaBe: The game lasted 60 moves? I'd say they went to the bathroom 61 times.

I think your comment is ridiculous!!!

sallom89: i don't think this should be a notable game for Anand it should be notable for Topalov for drawing this position with force.
