  WannaBe: 45. f5 Kg7
46. Rg8#
May-24-05  your brilliance: <wannabe> ajile is right; Harikrishna missed 45. f5#. Your line is OK too, but the move nos. are wrong. It should be 44. f5 etc.

WannaBe: I am sorry, I still don't see it. g7 is available for escape. Therefore 45. f5 is not mate.

if it's 44. f5 that's not mate either.
The king can still go to g7 then 44. ... Rg8#

May-26-05  your brilliance: <wannabe> If white plays 45. f5, then g7 is not open -- it is already taken by a black rook.
May-26-05  cade: The king can't go to g7, there is a black rook there. 45.f5# is an odd move to miss.
May-26-05  aw1988: To clear this up:

44. f5 is mate.
45. f5 is mate.
46. f5+ Kg7 47. Rg8

WannaBe: <Everybody> Yes, I see it now. I keep on looking at the 45. Rf7 as it was played in the game, while trying to follow the post lines. (Boy, do I feel stupid...) f5 IS MATE!
May-26-05  abcpokerboy: aw1988, sorry but 44.f5 is mate in 2 after rook g8
May-26-05  aw1988: You're right.

WannaBe: Okay, now I am totally confused. Maybe I'll go back to checkers...
May-27-05  aw1988: Checkers is a horrible miserable game.
Apr-22-10  DiscoJew: 25.f3!? is a very fascinating idea! I am surprised how you guys seem to focus so much on a missed mate...I guess thats why we all love chess in our own way though, right?
