Jul-23-07  whiteshark: Game drawn in 16 moves but it was nothing like a typical, insipid GM draw. It's more like a firework of sacrifies.
Jul-23-07  whiteshark: With <14.exf6!> (instead of 14. Kb1?!=)

white gets a superior position, e.g. <14...gxf6 15. Nxa2 Qxb5 16. Bh4 Qh5 17. Qf4 e5 18. Qa4+ Kf8 19. Be1 >

Jun-20-15  Mating Net: The first 9 moves look pretty routine, then Bingo! Hats off to both gentlemen for some fighting, albeit brief, chess
Jun-20-15  andrewjsacks: Good idea for pun.

  offramp: Often in the Sicilian, when the black queen on c7 is attacked by a white knight, like here:

...there is a choice of a5 or b6.
In Velimirovic vs Ljubojevic, 1972 black chose 15...Qa5, but 15...Qb6 might have saved him. In this game black did play ...Qb6 and drew.

Ever since I saw that game, the famous Yugoslavian game, when I've had the choice of ...Qa5 & ...Qb6, I've chosen ...Qb6 unless there is an immediately obvious reason not to play it.

Jun-20-15  kevin86: good pun, good draw.
Jun-20-15  OMH: It seems to me that those endless "book" jokes would be somewhat more to the point if his surname had been Book.
Jun-20-15  morfishine: <OMH> Well put. An interesting draw, forced by the person not named 'Book'

  Phony Benoni: Well, for better or worse it's one of my puns, and I freely admit it's as tiresome as all the endless "Short" and "Tal" puns that keep coming up. Certainly Mr. Böök deserves better.

But the point of the pun -- as I think a couple of people caught -- was a take-off on the usual image of a "book draw" as short and boring. Only half true here.

And, the pun aside, I was hoping to focus some attention on an interesting game which might not have been looked at otherwise.

Jun-21-15  ASchultz: The name "Book" always amused me a bit, accents or no.

I'm surprised this pun hasn't been used earlier. Just because it's obvious doesn't mean it's bad, and I think it works really well.

Now, I think "Book 'im, Eer-o" would be really terrible since it's not only obscure but also a stretch.

Oh yeah, cool game too.
