Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-24-12  YoungEd: The multiple exchanges on f6 seem to help Black more than White, even though White initiated them. Also, White just sort of "castled into it," though I'm not sure what a better plan would have been.

Phony Benoni: <YoungEd> The trades on f6 were probably a technical error. If you compare the positions before and afterward, four pieces have disappeared but Black has gained a move by recapturing with his previously undeveloped queen. She proved useful on f6 in several ways, from restraining White's weak pawns to the eventual kingside attack.

18.Ba2 was quite possibly a mistake. Perhaps he thought Black's plan was pressure on the c/d files and he could use to the bishop to help protect his queenside pawns from behind. However, Black had other ideas as well, and the bishop was sorely missed as a counter to Black's Bb7.

With Black's bishop commanding the long diagonal, 21.g4 and 22.f4 were practically suicidal. Were I recommending this game as a GOTD, I'd say White's king of Schorn of protection.
