patzer2: White's 41...Ne3! is a winning double attack, threatening to win the exchange for decisive advantage or to mate if the Rook moves (e.g. 43. Rg1 Qb7+ and White mates soon).

Not bad for a 15-year-old Master against a GM!

  patzer2: I wonder if Shabalov lost in a time scramble? He blundered with 38. Bd3?? (instead 38. Bg2 = appears to hold), allowing the potential winning 38...Rd2! 39. Rg1 Kh8! 40. Bxf7 41. Qa8+ Kh7 42. Qe4 Ne5 .

Though not as strong as 38...Rd2!, Needleman's 38...Rd7 appears to also be sufficient for a Black win. Perhaps Shabalov thought he could win on tactics in the complications after 38. Bd3?? In any event, his young opponent proves this to be a mistake.
