  KingG: Why didn't he play 31...Nxe5 ?
Nov-08-05  chessfreako: Omg!!! 31... Nxe5 wins for white!

KingG: <chessfreako> How does it win for White?
Nov-08-05  chessfreako: lol there seems to be some confusion... Anyways i need to go do my Geography homework XD

cyas guys enjoy the rest of the game...

Nov-08-05  chessfreako: <KingG> It would have been a free knight... What I meant is that it would be enough to win the match

KingG: Ok, he played 30 Nb3, i thought it was 30 Nd3. Sorry about that.

KingG: So, you meant wins for Black, since Black is the one taking the knight?

cu8sfan: Does anyone know the format of this playoff? I hope there won't be any blitz now...

chessgames.com: We have the moves confirmed now, and Carlsen wins. 1-0

Thanks to everybody for stopping by today. We are unable to transmit the moves to the blitz games (they are too fast for this format) but I believe you can see them at the official website, http://pub.tv2.no/nettavisen/sjakk/

Nov-08-05  notsodeepthought: Just logged in - I take it it's too late for black.
Nov-08-05  chessfreako: lol i'm sorry <KingG> it seems that I've typed wrongly...

Omg i better drink some coffee before going to do that Geography homework lol

Sneaky: clap, clap, clap! Good show Magnus! Now show Aggy some of that 5-minute street hustler stuff and you'll be the King of Norway!

offramp: Well played by Carlsen, but I cannot understand Simen Agdestein's opening choice. He was presumably playing to draw, but it all went wrong. He got into a bit of time trouble as well, which shortened the game. Thanks, <chessgames>!
Nov-08-05  Scarecrow: <cu8sfan> This is from TWIC: <They play two games with a full 7 hour time control, followed if necessary by tie break games on the 9th, which are pairs of rapid games until a winner is decided.>
Nov-08-05  chessfreako: Acutally its not a rook forks but a mate in 4 that Black resigned...

cu8sfan: <Scarecrow> Thanks. I hate it when they decide long games by rapids and blitz... )-:
Nov-08-05  invincible: <chessfreako> the fork is the mate in 4

Honza Cervenka: <chessfreako> I have no time to analyze it properly just now but I don't see yet any forced win for white there. In some lines white can be in troubles with weak first rank. I'll try to look at it more closely later.
Nov-08-05  EeEk: <chessgames.com> The tie break games are not blitz, but rapid. They take place tomorrow at the same time as today and can be followed on the official site and on ICC. The server of the official site did however crash at the end today, so let's see...
Nov-08-05  iron maiden: 1-0, just as I predicted. Was Adgestein lost before the blunder, or was 31...Rd8 a playable move?

  chancho: 31...Rdd8 seems to hold.
Nov-10-05  chessfreako: <chancho> 31...Rdd8 leads to 32. Qd5+ Kh8 33. Nf7+! And black has to sacrifice a queen or get smother-mated

  KingG: <chessfreako> 31...Rdd8 32 Qd5+?? Rxd5
Nov-11-05  chessfreako: <KingG> lol thx for correcting that for me... I think I'm blind!

Or I just need that extra cup of coffee. :D

Jan-15-06  Scarecrow: BTW, this 32. Qd5+ would make a nice puzzle.
