Dec-24-06 | | JSW: Nice Sacrife, maybe a future game of the day ? |
Dec-25-06 | | syracrophy: This could be a great Game of the Day for the next Christmas, with a possible pun as: "Santa Klaus is coming tonight" :-) |
Jun-26-07 | | BlackNightmare: how about up Klaus and personal |
Jun-26-07
 | | WannaBe: Or maybe 'Rumble in the Junge' |
Jun-26-07 | | JohnBoy: or "Kott in crossfire" |
Jun-02-08 | | lost in space: Nice game with the famous double sac of the ♗'s.
I was going through the game, looking for mistaskes/bad moves of Black before the double sac: 6...Be7 is not a mistake but a bit passive. More active is 6...dxc4 (Meran System) 13... ♘e4? is looking good, but a mistake. Could imagine that 13.. dxc4 14. bxc4 cxd4 15. exd4 is matching better the spirit of the position. Eventhough I don't think that the hanging pawns d4/c4 are weak in this position. After 14. ♘b5 ♕b8 (♕c8 is looking more accurate as this is keeping d7 under controle) 15. Nxd7 Rxd7 16. dxc4. Threat at this point: Loosing the ♘ on e4. So: 16...♘xc5.....and the board is ready for the sacs of both ♗ In addition: White seems to plan Ne5/f4 already a few moves beforehand. Otherwise he would have played the ♖ on f1 to d1 and the ♖ on a1 to c1. Instead he played 11. ♖ad1, keeping the ♖f1 on its place to be able to ply ♖f1-f3-h3/g3 |

 | | Penguincw: A similar pun has been used before: S From vs A Ros, 1981 (Welcome to the Jungle). Congrats to <JSW> anticipating this will be a GOTD (even though it took nearly 9 years). I'm also giving credit to <WannaBe> for coming the closest to predicting the pun. |
Aug-01-15 | | LucB: This game features angry Bishops, as in this one: Koltanowski vs M Defosse, 1936 |
Aug-01-15 | | waustad: There are times when it is hard to figure out what the joke is when one pronounces the name correctly. |
Aug-01-15 | | waustad: It gets even more confusing when one realizes he lived in Chile, so it starts to sound more like a Marx brothers bit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuV... |
Aug-01-15 | | goodevans: Surely the "J" in "Junge" is pronounced like an English "Y" so the closest English pronunciation of today's GOTD title is <Welcome to the young>. Still, at least that's less unfortunate than WannaBe's <Rumble in the young>. |
Aug-01-15 | | morfishine: <waustad> & <goodevans> LOL <Penguincw:...I'm also giving credit to <<WannaBe>> for coming the closest to predicting the pun> Double LOL ***** |

Aug-01-15 | | kevin86: The queen dominates! |
Aug-01-15 | | gokulkramnik: <JSW> You called it... This is today's game of the day :) |
Aug-01-15
 | | offramp: <gokulkramnik: <JSW> You called it...> He did. Quite incredible prescience.
One is almost tempted to suspect the machinations of the occult. |

 | | Sneaky: Great pun. (Ever hear of a sight rhyme?) |
Aug-03-15 | | Moszkowski012273: 31.Nxe6 is much stronger but it sure is a hard move to see. |
Sep-11-15 | | The Kings Domain: Good game. Black's queen sacrifice is strange; if he thought he could mount a good kingside attack he had another thing coming. |
Feb-23-24
 | | OBIT: <The Kings Domain> Well, the alternative to losing the queen is to get mated. Qg6# is threatened, and 20...Qe8 is met by 21. Qh8+ Kf7 22. Qg7#. |
Feb-23-24 | | Schwartz: 13...Nxe5 14. fxe5 Ne4 15. Qg4 Qc6 |
