Jan-22-06  Mameluk: Why draw?:----)
Jan-22-06  ughaibu: Maybe Topalov bets on himself to be the player who makes the most moves.
Jan-22-06  like a GM: I think Topalov is waiting for Gelfand's brain to explode!
Jan-22-06  badmove: Everybody complains about these two players continuing the game, but even <Steppenwolf> who said before he was on leave came back to see the rest (nothing interesting to do at home?). Definitely, we are chess fans... nobody else in the world will be willing to spent his Sunday (or Monday) spending his time in front of a computer to see "almost static" pieces. Lots of motives causes disputes here, but our faniatism is our common feature. Good day everybody...

Jack Kerouac: And the answer is......John Lee Rooker. I mean Hooker.
Jan-22-06  chaital2005: <Armenia> I am from Charlotte NC
Jan-22-06  Chopin: <Steppenwolf: Who taughted your grammer... You are my model, Chopin, obviously. LOL>

I was laughing at you. I know you're slow.

Jan-22-06  Steppenwolf: Theoretical draw since move 30. The real question is: why did they go on playing it? Many possibilities: a) they're paid extra for a long-fought game (some Corus secret bonus); b) they believe the opponent is sick and will have to leave for the hospital at some point; c) they are secret lovers and mad at each other since this morning, when they disagreed about who was allowed to put on the grey trousers.

dakgootje: Think first question to Gelfand/Topalov is gonna be: 'Was that so hard?' ;-)

Gregor Samsa Mendel: <Karpova:...prozac combined with ecstasy> Now *that* sounds interesting. Have you ever tried it?
Jan-22-06  SlavAttack: <notsodeepthought: <vspatel: Topalov is extending this game because he wants to stay ahead of Anand.> The only way he'll stay ahead is if the tie-breaker is the total number of moves played.>

You have no idea how correct you may be -- in Dortmund 2005 Topalov won a game in +100 moves (although he could have won in fewer), and it turned out that there WAS a number of moves tie-breaker!

Jan-22-06  ARMENIA: Well... I am from California... I am selling my house and thinking of relocating to North Carolina... Which city should I be looking for? I am looking for a 5-7 bedroom house... Has to be a very good neighborhood ... you know for children's safety
Jan-22-06  witty: at last we have a result, thks
Jan-22-06  Veryrusty: Why did they play? Because, despite material equality (except for the brief gh interval) throughout, the position was never symmetric, there was always a perceptible advantage to one side or the other (not the same!), and theinferior player was never in a position where he could force the advantaged player to repeat. That situation *just* arose now, and they drew. Personally, since I consistently got wrong what each player was going to do, I found the whole thing fascinating, especially Gelfand's strategic management of when to wait and when to push pawns. Much meat there for Jon Speelman or someone to do an endgame study.

Jan-22-06  Bobsterman3000: <Armenia> Try Cary -- it is a very nice suburb of Raleigh and has some of the highest-rated schools in the country. Cary is the one of the best places you'll ever find if you're a family guy with kids. A very safe and educated area. Other great suburbs in that region include Chapel Hill, Garner, Apex and Fuquay-Varina.

You could also try the suburban Charlotte area -- Kannapolis, Concord and Matthews come to mind.

Whatever you do don't move to Durham or to the Eastern part of the state, where the schools are less well-funded.

You can always use <Steppenwolf> as a pet.

Jan-22-06  Steppenwolf: Thanks Chopin, I'd make a great pet. I have long long teeth and fiery eyes and I love to eat fatty musicians with faulty grammar. Hummm... TENERE LUPUM AURIBUS
Jan-22-06  badmove: badmove: <You can use <Steppenwolf> as a pet> Yes, Chopin you are right. With his constants postings on "I am better than them, they don't understand, ba, bla bla)" and posting against several users at a time, I can only say the following that describes perfectly <Steppenwolf>:

"<Steppenwolf> that barks, doesn't bite"

Gregor Samsa Mendel: <You can always use <Steppenwolf> as a pet.> But is he housebroken?
Jan-22-06  Steppenwolf: badmove: I will put you on my ignore list if you troll me. In fact, I will put EVERYBODY on my ignore list. Like that I can read my kibitzes only, wouldn't that be wonderful? Only intelligent comment after intelligent comment, deep analysis followed by deep analysis, and wit met by wit. No more sluggish kibitzers who go on harping about a DRAWN game from move 30 (AS I FORESAW).

I hope <Steppenwolf> is send back to the pound.

Jan-22-06  Steppenwolf: Chopin, mon chou, va me chercher mes bas...
