Jan-27-06  Stenseng: Well personally i say that after becoming the #1 player in the world, Toplav is just really "taking a break" so i think he wont care either way really. Just my opinion.
Jan-27-06  Devilz: I predict a quick draw!
Jan-27-06  Phoenix: The O K Corus Corral.

Topalov says to Anand, "Time to slap wood."

Jan-27-06  Illogic: love that banner!!!
Jan-27-06  Trukov: With this match we are witnessing a battle between the two best active players, Certainly winning this match has the connotation of being the best of the world, That’s why we can say, there can be only one. Best chess player in the world and my vote goes to Tapalov.

My forecast hehehe, Tapalov wins with some sort of tactical trick at the end. You will see :-)

Jan-27-06  Trukov: Opening forecast:
Sicilian, Najdorf (B90)
1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 a6
(in case you need to watch tv before the game) :-)
Jan-27-06  HannibalSchlecter: Topolav is more physically fit. Topolav doesn't take early draws to save energy like Anand needs to. I give the nod to Topolav.
Jan-27-06  Trukov: HannibalSchlecter, with all the respect, this is not a aerobics this is chess hehehehe

notyetagm: Topy is in good shape. Last two times he has played White against Anand, he has achieved winning positions.

He beat Anand at M-Tel in a brilliant award-winning game and had multiple winning chances in a queen and pawn ending at San Luis.

Jan-27-06  HannibalSchlecter: <HannibalSchlecter, with all the respect, this is not a aerobics this is chess hehehehe> Trukov, yes but not being physically fit affects one's energy levels and hurts one's chess. Kasparov knew this and made it a point to hit the gym everyday and eat right for the sake of his chess.
Jan-27-06  aw1988: One time I was playing a small double-round-robin of 6 players in Bermuda (classical), when I decided to spend some time on the beach and relax, switching from my morning regiment of jogging.

I had problems thinking. It was certainly not my best chess.

Needless to say, in the next games, I stuck to the regiment...

So, yes, it's definitely better to stay physically active.

Jan-27-06  Kelvieto: I predict a scholar's mate :)
Jan-27-06  vspatel: I am guessing that Topalov will open with d4.
Jan-27-06  vspatel: I want Anand to win but Topalov is in excellent form so anything can happen.
Jan-27-06  babakova: --there can be only one-- spoken out loud by someone with an extremely deep voice. Chessgames has been waiting for this trump presentation and intends to make it count...
Jan-27-06  Confuse: hahaha. For some reason i thought "There can only be one" was referring to the movie by Jet Li, "The One". Still hilarious though. I'm rooting for topa. : )
Jan-27-06  sciacca khan: OKay...here goes. Sicilian. Richter-Rauzer. 44 moves of stranglehold chess ending in a draw.

I know I missed the boat with Ivanchuk. But who doesn't?

Jan-27-06  you vs yourself: Wow! Chessgames is doing a very good job promoting this game. I hope it lives up to the hype! I won't bother predicting who plays what in this game. I'll just sit back, relax and enjoy it.
Jan-27-06  Chess Classics: I have to pick (and ROOT!) for Toppy in this one. Both of them are extremely durable people, who can stand up to long tournements. And they're both in great form. But I think Toppy is going to have a brilliant piece of preperation for this one.

Regards,
CC

boz: It's up to Anand to decide whether he wants to challenge Topalov's supremacy or not.

ketchuplover: How about the loser drops to class C next year?
Jan-27-06  Akavall: I think Topalov will open with 1. d4
Jan-27-06  aw1988: Yes, I think we see another QID with Anand pulling out an absolutely ridiculous tactical feast, 0-1 in 74 moves.
Jan-27-06  babakova: I think we will see 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 e6 3.c4 or through transposition beginning with 1.Nf3.
