Feb-09-06  Autoreparaturwerkbau: Wondering how to mate with B+N only? Here you go ...

egilarne: This was not too convincing play by white. An easy plan from whites 73rd move would be to relocate the knight to b2 in four moves. The game could continue:
73. Nc6 Ka3 74. Ne5 Ka2 75. Nd3 Ka3 76. Nb2 Ka2 77. Ka1 Kb3 78. Kb1 Bd2 79. Ka1 Nc4 80. Kb1 Na3+ 81. Ka1 Bc3 mate

If black tries Ka3-a2-b1 then its time for Kb3 and if Kc1 its Nb2.

The rest is simple, Kb1, Bd2, Ka1, Nc4, Kb1, Na3+, Ka1 and Bc3 mate. If black should gain a tempo somewhere, white might need to to a tempo bishop move before the final kill.

Feb-15-09  WhiteRook48: the Baron wanted to test White's knowledge of the B+ N ending
Feb-28-09  WhiteRook48: I find my tactics go wrong when I have to let the lone king off the back row
Jan-02-12  Uvulu: I have to agree with <egilarne> in that White didn't play this B+N mate too convincingly.

First of all, he started from a relativeley easy position, with the Black King already trapped in the a4-a1-d1 triangle after 67.Nd4.

And also there were some imprecissions, such as 76.Kb3?! (76.Bd2 would have led to a quicker and more direct path to mate).

Jan-18-12  gazzawhite: <Uvulu> "He" is actually a she.

Shams: 75.Bb4 is surely the simplest, building the guard and allowing Kb5-c4-d3.
