Nov-16-09  ajile: Nice. The fork forces the loss of the exchange for White.
Nov-16-09  PivotalAnorak: Why not 42.Qxc3 ?
Nov-25-09  ajile: Probably because of 42..Qd5+. If now 43.Kg1 or 43.Kh2 then 43..Nd4 threatening Nf3+. And if 43.Kf1 then 43..Qh1+. And if 43.Kh3 then 43..Qh1+ again looks bad for White.

perfidious: Tukmakov may not have been aware of the possible improvement 9....Rc8, played a few months before this game: J Benjamin vs S Djuric, 1988.
Sep-08-11  PivotalAnorak: ajile sorry it's been 2 years :-) but I was thinking of 42 Qxc3 and if 42...Qd5+ then 43 Qf3. I see nothing for Black, White has 1 extra pawn and an excellent Q-side majority (+ Black's b-pawn is weak)... I really don't understand 42 Rc1 positionally, notwithstanding the tactical trick ... Ne3+
