Knight13: Nice little trick makes a 2490 go awry. Somebody is telling me that a 2490 GM dropped a rook...

  ToTheDeath: Cute tactics by Waitzkin.
Jun-10-07   Helios727: He should have played 27. -, Rb6.
Jan-06-08   benkogambit: you can't imagine how good Waitzkin is.
May-14-08   meliihhh: hello everybody. helios, after 27..Rb6, Mr.Waitzkin would play 28.Rh1, followed by the intrusion on the 7th rank, and with the help of the queen, white would have a huge attack, while black is doomed to passivity. So this does not really "suit" GM style play. And,well,Palatnik is a very strong grandmaster, but he did not really drop a rook, he sacrificed one to gain a counterattack! Palatnik's real minor mistakes are 9..Bxg4, giving the initiative to white; and 20..Rb6, losing a pawn on g5. Great game by Josh, and it is terrible that he stopped attending tournaments!
May-23-08   dreamer1991: 9..Bxg4?
May-23-08   dreamer1991: I`ve never seen this variation..
