Phony Benoni: Surely black made his last move with a mouthful of snickers.

al wazir: Almond won with the black pieces against a player with a rating 400 points higher.
Jan-04-18  Delboy: A textbook Tarrasch double bishop sac. Nice one

GrahamClayton: 32...f2! - it must have been a thrill for Almond to ignore the threat to his queen and play this move, which sets up the threats of either 33...♖g1# or 33...♕f3+ with mate next move.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Perhaps this was a game of Skittles(tm)? Reminds me of Lasker-Bauer with colors reversed. And Nimzowitsch would have loved the centralization after 19...Bd5.
Jan-04-18  thegoodanarchist: <Daniel Freeman> someone stole my pun!

However, I submitted "Almond Joy" for an engine game. And now, that submission is strangely absent from my pun submission list.

I've been robbed, I tells ya!

Also, FWIW, I submitted "The Smeller's The Feller" for this game:

Check It Out: Fantastic game. Double bishop sac, and that last move!
Jan-04-18  njchess: Great game from Black! 15. ... F5 is telegraphed but White can't do anything about it. Love the way Black uses the queen side pressure to lure Black's knight away and then lands 20. ... Bxh2+! followed by 22. ... Bxg2!! wiping out White's king side. White has to give back material just to stay alive, but by move 30, the game is essentially over. Nice.

Jan-04-18  morfishine: Glad you all enjoyed this game, its not exactly easy locating games worthy to be showcased as the GOTD...at least games that are not so well known

Happy Chess! morf

Jan-04-18  OlavDalkeith: #GrahamClayton: Rg1 isn't mate as king can move to h2 if he took the queen in previous move. But f1Q+ would do the trick.

ajk68: This game blows my mind for a 2100+ player.

At first glance, it doesn't look like his pieces can get into the action fast enough after the bishop sac and bishop sac offer. To see the potential in the position is truly amazing.
