Kibitzer's Corner
May-08-06  Drifter: Instructive example, of the pressure created by a single passed pawn.
May-08-06  khense: Heckuva interesting opening and middle game. I always played the c3 Sicilian, however I put the white bishop on c4.

al wazir: Why did black swap ♕s? 50...Qc5 seems safer.

An Englishman: Good Evening: After 20...Bf5, I would have played 21.axb5,Bxb1!?; 22.b6 and probably 23.Rxb1. Yes, I know it's crazy, but chess is supposed to reveal personality, isn't it?

What do you mean, it's not?

May-08-06  SJP: Can anyone explain the pun?
May-08-06  n30: "bad data" being an common IT error msg maybe?
May-08-06  alfilbueno: <An Englishman> You're not crazy, 21 axb5 is a strong move, and I think 21 ... Bxb1? is losing for Black, because of your continuation. Probably 21 ... axb5 (only move) would transpose to the game
May-08-06  EmperorAtahualpa: What's wrong with 32.Bxe4?
May-08-06  ObiWanBenoni: <Emperor>After 32. Bxe4? Bxe4 33.Qxe4 Qh3 and it is mate pretty soon.
May-08-06  EmperorAtahualpa: Wow, that's right <ObiWanBenoni>! I completely missed that, thanks.
May-08-06  Landman: I agree with alfilbueno on 21.axb5. I played 21.Rbc1 instead to give Black another chance to play 21...bxa4? I was hoping to follow up with d6, but 22...Be5 stops that so I should've played it at move 21 or 22.

Time pressure started soon after move 30; that's the explanation for the Queen exchange later.

May-08-06  outplayer: I suppose 12...Qxa2 is better for Black.
May-08-06  gulliver: < Drifter: Instructive example, of the pressure created by a single passed pawn.>

Absolutely right. Also there was tension due to the mating threat black had on g2, bringing his queen to action via g5- g4 -h3. But white had the upper hand. Good game by both players. That Datta guy... Is he Indian or American indian ? May be someone has got info about him. How about Chris Land . 1st time I hear of him. Looks like a strong player indeed.

May-08-06  dakgootje: <Landman> Got to feel good to have one of your own games as game of the day, doesnt it? =P
May-08-06  kevin86: A fine ending:After 57...♔d7 58 ♗g4+ ♔xc7 59 ♗xc8 ♔xc8 60 ♔f6 and white queens the last pawn. The intermezzo bishop exchange clinches the deal.

TheAlchemist: An alternative might be Datta Loss or sth like that. :-)

Nice game, <Landman>!

May-08-06  CapablancaFan: How about this pun:"The pawn Datta got away!" Hehe.
May-08-06  uuft: Yes, Datta is funny.
May-08-06  kevin86: Deepayan the heart of Texas!!! A perfect pun!
May-08-06  Jim Bartle: Now we only have to get him to play a tourney in Texas...
May-08-06  Landman: <dakgootje> It sure does! And I didn't even have to bribe anyone!

Deepayan and his sister Anjali are up-and-coming young players. They're American and Indian but not American Indian. But more important than any of that - they're Texan! =)

So propects are bright for getting to use <kevin86>'s perfect pun eventually. Just need the right game!

TheAlchemist: <Deepayan the heart of Texas>

I'm sorry, I'm not American so I don't get it. I found a song titled Deep in the heart of Texas, is that it perhaps?

May-08-06  Landman: <TheAlchemist> Yes, that's it exactly. There a scene in PeeWee's Big Adventure where he's in a phone booth claiming to be in Texas. When the person he's talking to doesn't believe him, he sticks his head out and sings out: "The stars at night, are big and bright"

Everyone around immediately stops, claps four times, and yells "DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!"

Don't remember much else about that movie but that scene was hilarious.

May-08-06  jackmandoo: "Large Marge" haunted my dreams for years after that movie. That woman Freaked me out. Everyone in my family knew that I was afraid of her and my brother who was three years younger was afraid of Pat Sajak from "Wheel of Fourtune". We had a strange household.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Oh, dear, it always bothers me when one of my ideas is not crazy. <alfilbueno> has the right idea, suggesting that Black should transpose back into the game with 21...axb5, and 22.Rac1 is probably best, but why should White oblige? How about 22.Bxb5!?,Bxb1; 23.d6!?,Ba2!; 24.Qb4,exd6; 25.Bxd6,Qb6; 26.Bc5 and either 27.Bxf8 or 27.Rd7 with all kinds of good clean sacrificial madness?
