| May-13-06 | | offramp: I like the way that after 29.gxh3, black is a piece down and all his pieces are on the back rank - yet white has serious problems. |
 |
May-13-06
 | | virginmind: guess it all started with 25.Nb3. Instead, i would have put my bishop on f4 and, if attacked, back to g3. the king is ok and the pawn in e4 remains double defended.
I agree that 25.Nb3 is very attracting, offering multiple possibilities for white to defend and counter attack, but...it turned out it also offered much more attacking tactics for black! all one needed to do is to see them. and anand did! |
 |
May-13-06
 | | virginmind: maybe topa thought 25.Bf4 was too "quiet" a move and wanted to show his guts with 25.Nb3 which opened the pandorra box. unfortunately, as it turned out, that box contained too much for him to handle. |

| May-13-06 | | Valiantangel: U guys r ridiculus! GM Anand is a far better player than GM Topalov..Anand has been in the top 5 for years!
Non of ur comments gave him any justice.
Like Topalov many of u must get ur brains examined |

| May-13-06 | | LIFE Master AJ: It was a fantastic game by Anand, maybe I will have to make it my "Game of The Month" (http://www.geocities.com/TheGOTMman...) for May. |

| May-13-06 | | DeepBlade: Topalov vs Anand, 2006
As I said ( Topalov vs Anand, 2006 the 2nd post) Anand wins! Anand has a rock-solid (diamond-solid, since diamond has a higher density) repertoire in the Ruy. 31. ...Rxe5 uses the unpleasant placement of the pieces, and pins the mighty rook. <Eric Schiller> Indeed, its not what I expected from Topalov, see his royal queenside treatment right in this game

| May-13-06 | | DeepBlade: Oh my god!
Anand vs Kamsky, 2006
He lost to Gata Kamsky! |
 |
| May-13-06 | | jmi: <DeepBlade: He lost to Gata Kamsky!> Not surprising. It was a theoretically drawn endgame from around move 30 but Anand pushed too hard for a win and duly got his ass kicked back to his hotel room by a resurgent Kamsky. This game will serve as a good reminder for Anand that he needs to hold back and learn when to draw. A draw is never a bad result compared with a loss. There's one thing about this competition, it's never dull! I love the new no-draw rules, it's becoming crazy trying to predict results. :) |
 |
| May-13-06 | | DeepBlade: Regarding ratings Anand,V (2803) - Kamsky,G (2671), and Anand having white, I would place my last 400 chessbucks on Anand, wouldnt you? Indeed, see <Ezzy>'s beautiful annotation on Anand vs Kamsky, 2006
It was a draw, you would expect Anand would make a mature decision and go for the draw... |

 | | Landman: <Mameluk> Qf5 isn't especially Fritzy. Human thinks, "Boy, I'd really like to play Rc2" after which the idea of Qf5 comes naturally. |
 |
| May-15-06 | | Fezzik: This game makes me want to see a Toppy-Anand match for the World Championship even more. Oh well. Congrats to Anand for adding yet another gem to the amazing list of best games of the new millenium! |

| May-16-06 | | Viking55803: Great game! I don't understand the purpose of 11....Bf8 nor, for that matter 13.Ba2. Can someone enlighten me? |
 |
| May-16-06 | | jmi: <Viking55803: Great game! I don't understand the purpose of 11....Bf8 nor, for that matter 13.Ba2.> 11 .... Bf8 is actually 2 ideas in 1. It safeguards the and also allows the a half open file protecting the e-pawn. 13. Ba2 is a usual move to safeguard White's light squared as it maintains a2-g8 clear diagonal attack on the Black . |

 | | Boomie: Lovely puzzle-like tactics after 28. Ne5. I'm sure it will become an instant classic. I had to play it through a number of times to understand the power of 30...Qf5. The double attack on c2 and h3 is decisive. 8. h3 struck me as being either premature or not needed. I'm sure he played it to avoid certain variations, but it felt like white lost the initiative here. Later h3 becomes a target. |

| May-21-06 | | atragon: I think Bacrot is a good player but he's not enough for this kind of competition. May be in future but today he's not ready. |

| May-27-06 | | filipecea: <U guys r ridiculus! GM Anand is a far better player than GM Topalov..Anand has been in the top 5 for years! Non of ur comments gave him any justice.> Although I am a Topalov fan, I think this game illustrates very well that Topalov have a painfully misplaced stone on his shoes, that is a strong opposition like Anand is, just like Nadal is in reference to Federer "superiority". As someone have posted, Topalov cannot easily claim his superiority over Anand. |
 |
| Jun-23-06 | | LIFE Master AJ: A truly wonderful game - I think it could be one of Anand's best (ever). |
