borisbadenoff: Here a little analysis which reflects my opinion. Maybe with a lot of flaws and stupid lines in it ;)1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. O-O Be7 6. Re1 b5 7. Bb3 O-O 8. a4 <Just another Anti-Marshall. I feel like nobody plays the Marshall Attack anymore these days.>
8. .. b4 9. d3 d6 10. a5 Be6 11. Nbd2 Rb8 12. Bc4 Qc8 13. b3 <This seems to be a novelty. Before 13. Nf1 h6 was sometimes played here.>
13. .. Nd7 <What else could have been played? I think 13. .. d5 would have been better 14. exd5 Nxd5 15. Bb2 f6 16. De2 Nc3 17. Bxc3 bxc3 18. Bxe6+ Qxe6 19. Nc4 and black looks fine.>
14. Nf1 Bf6 15. Ne3 g6 16. Bb2 <Maybe 16. Nd5 could have been more accurate. Nearly forcing 16. .. Bxd5 17. Bxd5 Nd8 with Be3, Bh6 or Ng5 following.>
16. .. Bxc4 <Bacrot exchanges the Bishops as he knows sooner or later he will be forced to do so. And by doing so at the same time he prevents Nd5.>
17. Nxc4 Re8 18. d4 exd4 19. Nxd4 Nce5? <Better would have been 19. .. Bxd4 now 20. Bxd4 is almost forced because everything else would weaken white's position. Then 20. .. d5 21. Nb2 Rxe4 22. Rxe4 dxe4 23. Nc4 because there is still the threat Rb5. Now black has the initiative because white has his pieces occupied protecting each other.>
20. Nxe5 Bxe5 21. Rb1 Qb7 22. f3 Nf6 23. Qd2 c5 24. Nf5 Bxb2 25. Rxb2 Rbd8 26. Rbb1 Qc7 27. Qh6 <White starts the attack>
27. .. Nf6 28. Ne3 <with the threat 29. Nd5>
28. .. Nf6 29. Nf5 Nh5 30. Rbd1 gxf5 <Some other move like Re6 or c5 would maybe have been better instead of opening up the defense.>
31. Qxh5 fxe4 32. Qg5+ Kf8 33. Rd5 <looses some tempo in my opinion. But makes calculating easier, because there are just a few moves left for black which prevent a soon mate.Better would have been
33. Rxe4 Rxe4 34. fxe4 Qe7 35. Qf5 Kg8 36. Rd3 Re8 37. Rg3+ Kh8 38. Rh3 f6 39. Rh4 >
33. .. Re6 34. Rxe4 Rde8 35. Qh5 <Again a move which gives Black the possibility to counterplay. Better would have been Qd2 to increase the pressure on Black's position and to bind the black queen to c6.>
35. .. Qxa5 36. Qxh7 Qa1+ 37. Kf2 Rxe4 38. fxe4? <Why not 38. Qh6+ Qg7 39. Qxg7 Kg7 40. fxe4 Re6 With advantage for White>
38. .. Re6 39. Rd3? <I don't know how much time he had left but this gives black all of a sudden good chances.>
39. Rf6+! 40. Rf3 Rxf3+ 41. gxf3 Qc1 42. Kg3 Qxc2 ? <This is something I couldn't understand. Black loses initiative and maybe also 1/2 a point. And now the draw is no longer evitable. The right move would have been 42. ..Qg5+>
43. Qh6+ Kg8 44. Qg5+ Kh7 45. Qh5+ Kg7 46. Qg5+ Kh7 47. Qh5+ 1/2-1/2
<All over now a game in which both side had there chances and which ended in a draw which doesn't any good neither to Ponomariov nor to Bacrot.>
