Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-25-06  Poisonpawns: Powerful game by Ivanchuk in my favorite opening!

  Mating Net: This game rocks!!

Chucky absolutely dominates that Bishop pair.

Jun-26-06  Poisonpawns: Ok time to analyse: This is a very well played game,I think whites losing move is 40.Ra8?! Because his back rank is left vulnerable to the coming attack 40.Ra1 is correct then if Ngf5 white simple captures on h4 and a draw is the most likely outcome.Move 41.Bf1?? is bad also in that it accelerates defeat, white is lost even with the best move 41.Bxh4 Qxh4!42.Ra1(Note the back rank is unprotected because of Ra8)Qg3+ 43.Kg1 re1+ 44.Rxe1 Qxe1+ 45.Kh2 Ne3 46.Qa2 g5! and black has a huge advantage.Black will either mate white using the kingside pawn storm or if white plays Qe2 the just trade queens and black is better placed in the endgame with a superior king and knight vs the bishop.
Jun-26-06  gmgomes: This game is a good example that 2 Knights can be better than bishop pair.

Ron: Ivanchuk can play some very interesting games.
Jun-27-06  harcee sarmiento: another fine treat for us guys! two snipping bishops vs. decisive knights!
Jun-27-06  harcee sarmiento: <qmqomes> remind you that the knights here in this game are better because it is not an "open" position where bishops are better.
Jun-27-06  harcee sarmiento: 40.Ra8? waste move.
Jun-27-06  harcee sarmiento: first time to see ivanchuk playing the alekhine's. surprising!

plang: Ivanchuk plays everything. I remember a loss by Ivanchuk with Alekhines against Kasparov in 1996 (Las Palmas)

  oao2102: why not 40...Ne2?
Jun-30-06  Cyphelium: <oao2102> On 40.- Ne2, 41. Bxh4 wins for white, since 41.- Qxh4 42. Bg6+ Kf6 43. Qf5 is mate.
Jun-30-06  harcee sarmiento: oh yeah.
Feb-04-07  ksadler: Black's f-pawn caused major havoc in White's position! Great game!
Feb-04-07  IMDONE4: great game by Ivanchuk, although Volotikin could have made a lot of improvements
