Aug-02-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <Peligroso Patzer> I guess Black doesn't want too many complications involving Qe7+...?
Aug-02-06  thundershock2k: well, now she has an hour to ponder her resignation
Aug-02-06  mrodrigues: She wants take in d6 with the queen.
Aug-02-06  EmperorAtahualpa: Looks like this little girl is not ready yet to resign and still wants to fight to get back into the game! I can surely appreciate that.
Aug-02-06  mrodrigues: Peligroso Patzer: Do you see now?

Peligroso Patzer: <mrodrigues: She wants to take in d6 with the queen.>

Thank you for that explanation. I would have been impatient to unblock the diagonal a tempo sooner (with 40. ... Bxd6), but Skripchenko's way is no doubt stronger.

Aug-02-06  chessic eric: 43...Qd2+ looks good, since the white queen cannot interpose lest after the exchange white drops the e4 bish
Aug-02-06  thundershock2k: does ...Bd5 work for black?
Aug-02-06  chessic eric: ...Qd2+ Kf1,Kg7
Aug-02-06  percyblakeney: This is very much over... A bit unexpected that Muzychuk loses with white against last placed Skripchenko, but she is still rather young...
Aug-02-06  chessic eric: or 44...Rh4
Aug-02-06  mrodrigues: Peligroso Patzer A better explanation is: the bishop is better placed in the long diagonal and the queen in the open file.
Aug-02-06  chessic eric: hmm, I thought 44...Rh4! was the killer - I wonder why ...Qc1+
Aug-02-06  Confuse: my guess for now is Bd4...

Aug-02-06  Confuse: a doh. nevermind : ( queen blockage
Aug-02-06  lunacyfrog: 44...rh4 would have won sooner.
Aug-02-06  mrodrigues: Thanks!
Aug-02-06  EmperorAtahualpa: What's so strong about ...Rh4?
Aug-02-06  chessic eric: i really can't figure out why not 44...Rh4 - threatening both the e4 bishop and Rf4 skewering queen to king. And now that option is gone for the moment.

Anna does tend to act a bit like a star and underestimates weaker opponents (and she loses sometimes because of that). Of course Skripchenko is a great player, but she was in last place which would indicate she's in rather bad form.

Aug-02-06  chessic eric: <EmperorAtahualpa: What's so strong about ...Rh4?> after 44...Rh4 45.Bd5+,Kg7 the white queen has to move to a less than preferable square, and then 46...Rf4+ and the black pieces are swarming around the white king
Aug-02-06  chessic eric: 47...Qg5+ 48.Kf1,Rh4!
Aug-02-06  chessic eric: and not 47...Qg5+ 48.Kf3??,Qg4+ 49.Ke3,Bd4
Aug-02-06  EmperorAtahualpa: Congrats to Almira! Nice game.
