Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-15-06  Runemaster: White's piece sacrifice on move 16 was too ambitious.

His pieces weren't well developed enough to take advantage of the opening of lines and attack the Black king in the centre. White got 3 pawns for the piece, but they weren't far enough advanced to be immediately dangerous and Black therefore had time to round them up.

Dr. Funkenstein: I actually liked White's sac. It blows open the kingside and gives white a pair of passed pawns.

However, if the queen trade is unavoidable, why not play 24. Qxf5 exf5 25. Kd2 with the idea of moving all the action over to the passed pawns on the kingside? Knights are notoriously bad at stopping passed rook pawns.

Then again, Haslinger is a 2400 rated player and I'm not, so maybe he saw that plan and it doesn't work.
