Aug-20-06  VardanP: 31.Rd1 was a blunder. After 31.Bd4 Radjabov could reach a draw.
Aug-20-06  Mahendrakumar: Surprised to see Anand being so inconsistent. However his fighting skills are still alive!!
Aug-20-06  percyblakeney: Radjabov missed the draw here, probably because of a misunderstanding concerning when the game started. When he arrived at the playing hall his clock had already started and it's not easy to play rapid chess against Anand with less time already from the start...

acirce: Judit Polgar accused Anand of not being a sportsman once when the same thing happened to her in the last game of Mainz 2003: Judit Polgar vs Anand, 2003
Aug-20-06  percyblakeney: It was "only" 4 minutes Radjabov lost, but he would probably have needed them when missing a couple of drawing lines in time trouble.
Aug-20-06  hitman84: Lucky win for Anand.
Aug-20-06  alicefujimori: hmmm...Why was Radjabov late? Anyway, how can someone be blamed for not being a sportsman when it's the rules to start the clock in these cases?

acirce: Polgar said Anand could have insisted that they didn't need to start the clock. I don't think I agree with her. I can understand if she was frustrated at the moment though since it was the decisive game, but this I read in an interview conducted a while later (December 2003) so I think she shouldn't have said that.
Aug-20-06  percyblakeney: <Why was Radjabov late?>

If I understand the German home page correctly previous games hadn't started according to schedule and Radjabov thought it was going to continue like that. He hadn't heard about the Polgar incident, but it would probably have been a good idea to be there in good time to make sure anyway...
