Mar-25-07 | | venk98: 19.Bg5+ Kd6 20.Bf4+ Kc6 21.Bd5# it took me 10 seconds to analyse this mate....but i have a doubt in 16.Rxf6..if black responds Bxf6, then black would be leading in material...why does white take this risk or why does black capture the rook with his pawn and not with the bishop?????????? |
Mar-25-07 | | Bingat29: The solution is still best because it gains material at once if black puts up a defense to the check at a4 e.g. Bb2. The other suggested attack may be refuted simply by d3. Whereupon black can cover up with either bishop or knight. The queen is not trap by the rook since it can move to g3 with impunity. There are more possibilities like, at a given lull by the preparatory move, threatening the white bishop by black rook and when it moves black create another escape route. Considering all these complexities, gaining material at once is best otherwise mate. See the point friends. |
Mar-25-07 | | CyberTrokair: I don't understand why black takes the rook with a pawn instead of with his bisshop. I considered 16.Rxf6 but dismissed it because I didn't see how to continue after ...Bxf6. |
Mar-25-07 | | CyberTrokair: ok nevermind, I just got it |
Mar-25-07 | | KingV93: I got it. The guy who can't spell 'field' when posting on the world wide web for the whole planet to read got it. I'm more than mildly surprised. |
Mar-25-07 | | TrueBlue: Ability to spell has no correlation to how smart someone is. I have horrible memory, but this doesn't stop me from making a living with my brain. |
Mar-25-07 | | TopaLove: <KingV93> The guy who claims to be only 1500 on yahoo said that got the puzzle. THAT´S surprising. |
Mar-25-07 | | KingV93: <true blue> that may be true, but misspelling field for all to see sure makes you feel dumb! <topalove> I am 1500 on a good day. I expected to see posts about how easy everyone thought this one was, that is usually the case when I get one correct, but hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile! |
Mar-25-07 | | Rubenus: <Jackz> What will Sunday be if this is Saturday? |
Mar-25-07 | | Timex: I got only Rxf6 and Nd5, that's it.. |
Mar-25-07 | | Marmot PFL: My speling iz onli avareje and iam reel smarte two. I thot the puzel wuz ezy. |

 | | playground player: Glad I wasn't the only one who thought Bg5 was the first move of the combination, not the last... |
Mar-25-07 | | Sularus: got it !
that knight was a mean defender and the queen controls the rank so i thought of removing the knight and blocking the queen. but you already know that. =) |
Mar-25-07 | | Marius: it is sunday but the diffculty is not here... |
Mar-25-07 | | Marius: 12... Qxe5 is suicide |
Mar-25-07 | | aazqua: F6. Chortle. What is the point of putting up these sorts of games? What an embarassment. |
Mar-25-07 | | MaczynskiPratten: <venk98> 16... Bxf6 loses to 17 Nd5 in just the same way as the game, but even faster as the Black King has no escape square at e7 |
Mar-25-07 | | wals: Did not get within cooee of the solution |
Mar-25-07 | | Dr.Lecter: This was a simply amazing combination. Completely missed it. |
Mar-25-07 | | ALEXIN: Spent more than 20 minutes to get it. Complex combination in any case. |
Mar-26-07 | | Bingat29: Why not take the rook by the bishop? Black took the rook by the pawn to create an escape route for the king. If he took the rook by the bishop. Then under the same combinations Nd5 and then checking in Qa5 is mate next move at Qc7 (Black is forced to defend with d6 or sacrifice the queen, otherwise Qa5 is mate) Black must have thought that there is haven in e7 hoping to exchange his Queen for a Bishop and a Rook but the discovered check with the bishop blocking the black queen sacrifice is brilliant. |
Mar-26-07 | | kevin86: This sacrifice circus leads to black's quick, untimely demise. That is surely KRISTALL klear. lol |
Mar-30-07 | | gambitfan: a very nice puzzle of the day... |
Nov-02-11 | | shannie: Sorry venk98 your analysis is incorrect, not mate.
Both king chases, after 19.....KxB and 19.... Kd6 are easy to work out to mate or decisive wins of material. |
