| Nov-14-06 | | Archives: Funny you should mention that. I have a little travel set which I am taking with me, as well as a puzzle book, "Can you be a positional chess genius". |
| Nov-14-06 | | Archives: Hey guys, lets make a pact before this game starts....Lets promise each other that we will not turn this forum into, "your analysis sucks and so do you!" And also, lets all promise that if any of you catch me naked in my boxers at my ex-girlfriends place, that you will not tell my current girlfriend. I swear, my clothes had gotten dirty, and I was basically naked because my clothes were in the washing machine. My ex-girlfriend and I then decided that it would be a good time to act out several other plotlines that we saw on 80's sitcoms, including the one where I have two dates with two girls at the same restaurant and I have to run back and forth between them. Obviously hilarity ensues. |

 | | Sneaky: Here's a winning plan I think we should endorse:
(1) Open with d4 (*) as Berliner points out, it's the move that grabs the most center. (Note that he regards c4, c5, f4, and f5 as part of the extended center.) (2) Then we have more space and we don't give up that advantage unless we have something really sweet to exchange it for (e.g. material or a massive lead in development). (3) We point everything at the Black King no matter where he runs, as Alekhine would. This keeps Team Black in constant awareness of their monarch's mortality. (4) Assuming they defend the all important king properly, they become weak in some other sector of the board. We can then attack that sector faster than they can reorganize. Why? Because we have more space (see 1 above). (5) Material is won, or irreparable damage is inflicted to the pawn structure, and then the game enters what I call the "mop up phase." Note * : If we choose instead to play 1.e4 instead, don't worry, the plan still works. (1.d4 is just personal preference but if truth be told, it's not really superior to 1.e4.) Team White ... they shoot, they score! Woo hoo! |

 | | WannaBe: <Sneaky: ...Team White ... they shoot, they score! Woo hoo!> They shoot horses don't they? |
| Nov-14-06 | | Stevens: I think this may come down to who keeps the intensity up for the longest. If one team starts to struggle, even for a day or two since the moves will be quicker here, then it'll be curtains. There is usually a lot of enthusiasm and interest early doors, but we'll see what happens after a few months! |
| Nov-14-06 | | Stevens: One other thing; we should as much as possible, refrain from posting variations until we have checked them fully ourselves rather than post something off the top of our head and then expect someone else on the team to spend time refuting it. I'd also like to, if possible, refrain from electing any leaders, as this is more likely to drive people away than keep them present. Just my thoughts. |

 | | Sneaky: Sometimes incorrect variations can illustrate points of the position better than the supposedly "best variation". I posted some 'wrong analysis' on the Arno game in that style. E.g. I played against my computer and forced the computer to make an inferior move, just to illustrate a kind of tactic that was lurking under the surface. But you should always indicate that you are doing that when you do it! |
| Nov-14-06 | | Rocafella: Is it time to get angry yet? Er Grrr.. |

| Nov-14-06 | | babakova: 'Physical' by Olivia Newton John should be the anthem, or whatever you wanna call it, for team black. |
| Nov-14-06 | | Rocafella: <babakova> Lol, more like let's get Chessical, Chessical, hydra-style! |
| Nov-14-06 | | Tenderfoot: All right, so it's agreed: 1...a6 and Olivia Newton John's Physical it is. White may have the computers, but they're missing style points. I think our 'tude definitely gives us the edge here. |
| Nov-14-06 | | Rocafella: The computers won't help them THAT much yet anyway, middlegame and endgame more so. What are they going to do, run Rybka for 10 days on whether e4 or d4 is winning? |

| Nov-14-06 | | shr0pshire: Fellow team members, I really like our spirit and I am proud to be apart of the "Black Team." I know we will do great, and I look forward to learning and playing with you. Btw. I also vote for Olivia Newton John's "Physical" (even though it is from the 80s" and something off beat in the opening such as a3. ;) |
| Nov-14-06 | | arifattar: I would rather go for 'Can't stop this thing we started' Bryan Adams. |

 | | TheAlchemist: <arifattar> A more appropriate Bryan Adams song may be "We're Gonna Win" :-) |
| Nov-14-06 | | lbbryknght: Would anyone cosider the theme to "Dr. Zhivago"? If not..."Physical" works for me. |
