Jan-23-07  notyetagm: GM Bauer has just published a book on the Philidor defense called <The Philidor Files>. He clearly practices what he preaches.

eduardovitch: I bought the book as a follow up to Kosten's book. Some new stuff,I'm presently "studying it".I prefer 3...Nbd2.Where else can you find more of his games?
Jan-11-08  Xuorarch: What about 5.Bxf7+ Kxf7 6.Ng5+ Kg8 7.Ne6 Qe8 8.Nxc7 Qg6 ? This seems like a fairly interesting way to mix it up.
Jan-11-08  dazone3: <Xuorarch> That's a fair question (assuming you mean 6.Bxf7+). A whole chapter from Bauer's aforementioned book is devoted to this line, and the line where Bxf7 is played one move later. In short, Black will stand better unless he gets greedy. Black's Queen, minor pieces, and central pawns will attack the insufficiently-guarded white King.

See, for example, A Kobernat vs E Schiller, 1998.

Jan-12-08  Xuorarch: Oops, got the numbering wrong, but thanks for the info.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Time for a purely speculative sacrifice--you have to believe that you will find your through the complications because it's impossible to see everything. Finished 6/7 for the week; flubbed Tuesday.

Flubbed. Tuesday.

Sigh.

Mar-01-20  thegoodanarchist: Before this game, Bauer was speaking very loudly in the French team meeting.

Finally, his coach said "Please stop Shaoteng"

Mar-01-20  agb2002: I missed 24.c5+ Kh8 25.Be6 in my line B.1 and Black should settle for perpetual: 25... Qf3+ 26.Kh2 Qf2+, etc.
Mar-01-20  khense: I guess if 33 Qf3, Qe5+ 34 Qf4 Rg2+ or 34 Kg4 h5+ 35 Kh4 Re4+
Mar-01-20  RandomVisitor: After 20...d4 white still in the game. After 21.g3 not so much.

Haha, a pun with a preamble!! Great stuff, <thegoodanarchist>!

Mar-04-20  jith1207: < Before this game, Bauer was speaking very loudly in the French team meeting.

<<Chinese coach came up to them and said, "you can neither stop shouting nor can stop Shaoteng">>

French coach was upset at the remark and begged Bauer "Please stop Shaoteng">

  al wazir: I think the immediate 24...Rf3 would have been better. If 25. Qxe3 dxe3+ 26. Ke2 Qe5, the black ♕ mops up white's ♙s.

offramp: Okay, I think it's time for a moratorium on puns using Chinese players' names. They are every single day now. It's like some kind of virus.
Mar-04-20  Ironmanth: Can't imagine that Yu Shaoteng was at all satisfied with his performance in this game; seems he was ceding all advantage to Black throughout. Everyone have an awesome day!

Why Yu Shaoteng, <offramp>?

Mar-04-20  ajile: We keep Shaoteng ourselves in the foot regarding puns.

MissScarlett: <All Over Bauer The Shaoteng> would only work if Bauer had lost.
Mar-04-20  Andrew Chapman: Note that white can't play 21. Qxd4+
